    TR to follow sometime soon.
I guess that's why we arrived on the 1st and stayed till the 5th ?!
we would have met, if you had read the forecast on the 1st.
they got 70cm down in the valley.........

i got lots of core shots too, but i received them in bovec.
edit: those Big Daddies are insane. Atomic and all other companies will soon be bankrupt because noone will ever buy skis again after they got the grey BDs.
2m to solid rock impacts on the edge ? well a core shot, but the edge won't move or crack.
simply amazing. those skis are indestructable.

What's all that moisture in La Grave doing?
Snowline is where? How much is falling? Etc.

Data if you are there please. Thanks.

    Saas-Fee, Haute Valais; Skied on Jan 5 & 6th.

Bottomline: 50 - 60 cms still needed to open up all pistes and hide the rocks.

2 - 3 teleskis yet to open up.
8 - 10 pistes yet to open up.
2 - 3 pistes should be closed down. Way too rocky!

Pistes below glacier are boilerplate. Way too icy!
I took the telepherique down to village at 3PM each day.

Pistes on glacier in great shape. Which is why we went. Dependable and plenty of elbow room (even during High Season!).

    Off-Piste:
Rope Ducking on Glacier - Off-piste boot+ high pow from storm on Dec 31/Jan 1st.
Some areas plaqued / wind-affected, many areas still remain feathery smoke.

Below Mid-Station - No way! Rock city w/ thin to no coverage.

At end-of-day Friday, Jan 6th: There were not many off-piste lines remaining that could be skied safely (i.e. w/o crampons, rope and harness...no thanks!).

So, we left Sat AM w/o skiing.

euro outlook(except maybe for the farest southwest): dry, mild(0-minus 3deg C in 1500m) and sunny.
nothing to get excited about until next friday/saturday at least. the areas which got snow will keep it most likely because it is pretty dry.
and the others won't get any. it may get a bit colder from the southeast, but it will stay dry most likely.

    Just returned from Warth.

Still found stashes of 30 - 40 cm untouched pow when hiking a bit for the turns. Almost converted my new Bro's to rock ski status while hitting all the hidden stones. Coverage was o.k. but they definitely need another 1-2 snow storms for a really good base and to rebounce from tracked-out status.
On the plus side: very low avy hazards right now.

Here's a few pics from touring on Hokar which is on the Rendl side of the valley in St Anton today. Great boot top powder was had. No action shots because i'm lame and didn't really feel like stopping.

    The good old Rendlbahn:

At the top of the ridge:

Some gnar with Kapall in the bakcground:

    I think i'm becoming Swedish:

Looking back up at the run:

    La Grave

Just arrived La Grave; skied today. Last snow several days ago, none predicted soon - see Lostintrees' map.

All classic lines are well skied; but powder alongside looks inviting but our guide warns us off as the coverage is very slight with still lots of rocks waiting to grab you.

Temps today were 0 isotherm at 1800 and rising: but tomorrow will be colder:

Some fresh lines to be found in the trees, but keep watching for bogies: skiable down to the village

Next valley down from Hinter Rendl. You ski down the backside from Riffl 2 then tour up the opposing ridge and ski into the next basin. It spits you out by M Preis. There is still lots of room and excellent, fluffy snow if you're willing to do a little walking.

wildstyle, I think Hayduke is there that week. I'm only arriving for Gordy's camp on the 22nd. Train07 also said on another thread he'd be there, can't remember if it was that week or the previous one though.

And of course there's the Chamonix-based assortment of maggots: Idris, flingle (that's his handle isn't it?), bbirtle, etc.

I did mean the 28th of course.

I was the guy who sold 2000 shares in Nippon Telecom for 1 yen each instead of one for 2000 yens. Or something like that.

    thanks .

    jan 22nd - 28th

I'm calling wednesday or thursday of that week to hook up for some turns depending on conditions..... how does that sound ? Gives us time to work the kinks out ...

Who's up for meeting that week then ?

People known to be in the area that week:

    Mrs roo
    mulletizer
    idris
    hayduke
    train07
    redskea
    bbirtle
    flingle

I'm thinking we could put together a euro-multi-maggot-mini-cham-summit-stokage for all those who couldn't get time off for Gordys camp the following week. I'll bring the helmet cam to record the event.

Depending on work and weather, I would like to come down to Cham for a day or two. Thursday/Friday 26/27 works best for me.

I have met and skied w/ few persons on your list. Reads like you are in charge of organization so I will PM my natel/cell #.

nothing new in the crystal ball.
sun. and sun. and sun. at least 7 more days.(and maybe more....)

the US should go off the next 7 days, so if you want to flee the alps:now is the time.
lets hope Ullr blesses the alps at the end january again.
