The big white one was a bit of a run in with some boulders I thought were lumps of snow. I could actually SMELL burning plastic as I walked back up to get my destroyed ski!

As for the ones on the edges, word to the wise - avoid Las Lenas on a dry year...

Ah, burning plastic. The one and only great thing about dry slope skiing

    Hehe, OK, OK, I'll revise.

In reality, I reckon it's gonna be pushed out over to Switzerland, dump on the Northern Alps (but not make it over onto the Italian side in any meaningful way) with a storm total of over a meter.

Lech/St. Anton will be the epicenter. I will be arriving on the 20th to take full advantage of it.

Appearently they have entire competitions on dry slopes up in England. The guy that told me about this has done slalam comps of dry slopes - says people develop techniques that you could never do on real snow and some of the competetors hardly ever ski on actual snow. "WHY?!?!" Is my only response. "Because it just never really snows in England, and trips to the alps are expensive." Gotta hand it to the Brits for their perseverence!

This does indeed look encouraging. Obertauern and Krippenstein are getting nuked.

Hoping for the best for my first week in Solden (21-26) and the second week in L2A (27-02).

Subtle, are you free for some turns around January 5/6 at the Krippenstein?

Edg, when and where are you in France?

Me just realised what those two (well, one in reality) scales are, hehe. (and I like 'em). 150+ for Les Arcs area? I must be dreaming...

    Franz : 23rd->30th, Les Arcs.

    Ok.

So in Austria the places to be are?:

    -Lech
    -St.Antton
    -Groscklockner area?
    -Kitzbuhl?
    -Flachau
    -Obertauern

    Slovenia:

    -Kanin

    Swizerland:

    -Saas Fee
    -Zermatt
    -Grinewald
    -Leysin
    -Glacier 3000
    -Gstad

    Italy:

    None

    France:

Well anything from cham to huez?

Is france in as good shape as it looks like?
Roo´s and his teams pictures looked, well,um, good? But?

Touching down in geneva exactly within 168 hours, and going roadtripping for two/three weeks around the alps.
Cant decide whether to go to francia where i have rompped around in the last 5 seasons or go east to check out new territories.Damn this white mans burden...
Finding a lodgin between christmas and Newyears eve is just more difficult in west than in east.

    Damn theese choices.

be careful. this is not new snow. so only the subtracted values count for new.
and most will be blocked by cham due tothe northern airflow.
france in genera will not be pounded so severely by this one.

edit for meat: North side for pow! not italy, sw france, or slovenia.

so st. anton /kripp in austria and cham in france.
im not sure about engelberg and the rest of suisse, because of the lacking base. but they get some as well.

anton wil be inthe epicenter, but the krip will get poundedas well. as should eastern switz.

Snow-forecast.com is claiming 9-14cm on Friday depending on the altitude... anybody got a 6 day version they can screen cap (or PM me their unpw I promise I won't give it out to anyway else)? Weather.com 10-day seems to confirm something biggish might be on our way.

Met Idris today for the first time up at Les GM... there's a decent base, I think if we just can get some more pow on top it should be rad. Flegere opening this weekend too...

    Come on, powder dance time......

Meathelmet if you want some Zermatt beta let me know (I just finished spending an entire year there). Later in the winter, when it snows more and the glaciars and rocky faces become doable, there's some incredible stuff and you can always get the powder all yourself.

I reckon we'll wait until Friday to make a decision but maybe we'll head for Cham. Brian, are you up for some turns if we end in your neck of the woods?

Definitely up for a beer, can definitely give you all the beta, and to ski as well, although work is a little crazy these days and may make it impossible. I'll PM you my contact info...

PS - I'm headed to the USA for Christmas on the 23rd, back in Cham' on the 30th.

For Cham, you only need the 3-day (alas )

Sorry France and Western CH, but that promising 6-day 4kast posted on Monday has been reduced to this:

New 6-day 4kast continues to concentrate major snow fall in Western Austria.
A dusting of green and orange amounts is 4kast for everywhere else.

PDS Report: My reco for PDS is Avoriaz, but expect crowds this weekend as Noel vacation kicks-off.

    - I was up at Champoussin (the station between Morgins and Champery, VALAIS) yesterday. No skiing, all work. Anyway...

The snow quality is excellent!!! Deep packed pow. Cold temps remain keeping the pistes in great shape. No thawing/freezing cycles means no ice on pistes. Off-piste is doable, but why? Only 10 - 15cm of fresh dust on crust and rocks.

Only teleskis working. Only blue pistes open. No chair lifts. No liason w. Champery. Nothing open that is high and red/black. I saw no activity to open more terrain.

    - Avoriaz is 80% open. 1 liason between Avoiraz and Champery open.

    - Champery/Les Croset seems to have ~ 60% open. Again, anything high and red/black does not appear open at this time.

That expected dump this weekend would have been enough to open everything, but...

Reality: We need 40 - 50cm to get things moving in PDS on the CH side.
