    Monday's 6 - 7 day predictions of 30 - 50cm around Zermatt/Saas Fee for this weekend have melted away to 10 - 20cm.

Even that massive dumpage in pink (50 - 100cm) in north-eastern Italy centered around Bornio has disappeared.

SKUNKED! Oh well, must be why they call it weather...whether or not it will snow.
    as i explained to al....

6 days - indicates that something is coming
3 days - indicates where that something will fall
24 hrs - indicates how much will fall

    all generally speaking of course.

never make plans based on the 6 day forecast. that dump shifted almost immediately after that map was posted. it went from a massive south/east dump to a minor westside dump. things are looking better for our parts. radio guys were saying snow down to lakeside tomorrow morning possible.

you should still get enough to freshen up Saas Fee and Zermatt. Saas Fee is open to 2500m now, which help a bit. Btw, warning - they yank passes for skiing offpiste on the glacier. I know firsthand. Zermatt is more relaxed about it -or maybe I just haven't been busted yet.

    Yep.

Resort with the most snow forecast right at this very second looks to be Alpe d'Huez. Give it a minute and it'll probably be Schladming. Then Lauterbrunnen. Then St Moritz.

    They update regularly.

I don't care for the forecast right now - it's nuking even here in the flats so Northern Alps should get pounded on by tonight.

Jay - we're driving. I've got a Grand Cherokee booked and we're going to meet up with Mit who's flying into Zurich. I've got options on accommodation in Loser, Axams and Alpe d'Huez, so I'm just holding on to see how things firm up snow-wise. Eastern Austria is a pretty long drive from the Channel Ports and I'd be delighted to see the French Alps get a whole bunch of snow in the next few days.

    you might find this useful:
snowcover in europe and development every 6 hours.
as you can see right now austria is the place to go
BUT thishas only a 15km resolution so you can only see thegeneral regions with much/little snow and not single mountain ranges.

right now im staring at the development ofa 50cm+ snowcover in belgium in 48h !!
i knew this storm would hit us here in the west, but it should come like this, it would surely be exceptional.

beware of the future cards: They only show the snocover based othe models and may be as unreliable as snow forecast when measureing the new snofall.
the "now" chart is quite accurate concernig snow heights.

edit: for a reeeally nice high resolution model of the german/austrian alps. damn that site is nice.

Yes, we got 12 - 16cm at Versoix (~400m) lakeside.
Should have been 1 - 10cm as predicted by No-4-Kast!

And, guess what, that big PINK blob has reappeared and shifted just Northeast of Bornio towards Kitz & Zel.
The orang's are going to become very agitated as the weekend progresses.

Saas Fee should total 10 - 25cm of fresh. I may cancel. I just cannot stand touching bottom.

If you're storm-chashin' you should be on the road this AM towards Kitz & Zel. The Tyrol's are the where the bottomless will be over the next 3 days.

edit for something useful: The next few days(up to 7) look really good all over the alps. colder than average and wet conditons are very likely. the east shouldget hammered sunday again, butthe other areas receive as well. i won't do anymoisture outooks concerning the time after sunday, because you know don't wanaendup like snw-forecast
maybe i can get someone to go next week as i had to cancel my trip this week. the early season is developing well this year

Finally snowing in La Grave as well, but it still needs close to two meters to be ok to ski without getting a coreshot every 15 meters.

Another precip forecast linkyoumight find useful
    high resolution bolam model
they are usually pretty accurate. when you compare the snow forecast maps to the bolams ere youllsee that they actually do not measure any snow on the north side of the alps during a southern airflow. and i really like the red dots in bovec on the 60h map .(80cm in 12h) to sum up the snow you have to add the map values every 12h start with24 then 36h and so on.

    [hug]Come here...[/hug]

The first map seems to be relatively accurate, but the lower one seem a bit bonked.
The snow cover growth doesnt seem to correlate with any of the aviable weater maps? It just like, doesnt develope?

Btw, how about the resorts around Innsbruck?
Gonna hit them withing 1 week,so...

To the north-west and east, where the snow seems to be?
What resorts are the worthwile skiing?
I have lost my AdAc map so it is a bit hard to come up with the resorts.

    Anyone?

thanks for the links! very useful to compare against what I have.

Again, I would like to re-ask Hayduke's question. Is the left hand scale snow fall depth expected, or, moisture content of clouds expected to fall in any form...

and, the right-hand scale is ?
