Well, to his credit, at least he didn't drive his snowmachine right up to the edge of the cornice. I've seen dopes do that...and these were dopes used to the Chugach that should have known better.
I wasn't able to see the full video, but it appeared to be fairly less dense snow pack largely derived from a very recent snowfall, from the little I could see. So at least it wasn't some big gnarly old spring-time cornice ready to give way in all its deadly glory.
Cornices are beautiful...like an ocean wave frozen in time. I especially love them when what I call "mountain smoke" is blowing across the high altitude ones.
