Went out with the dog today. Skinned a few miles up a groomed snowmobile trail to a mellow line you can see from the road by my house. Conditions were a thick, mostly supportable crust that eventually softened up in the sun.
After that I skinned up to try to get a shot of skiing with the lake in the background. After digging the pit, I wasn't psyched to do it. So I bailed.
Good day overall.

The pit depth was about 3.5ft to the ground. You will see a shear layer about 1.5ft down and then again about 2.5ft down when it finally fails. The pit was dug on a less than 30 degree slope for safety, because I was alone. The lower foot of snow in this shallow snowpack is totally rotted out from the November dry spell.
