    Guess what? Rumsfeld lied.

Rumsfeld recently told disgruntled National Guard troops in Kuwait the reason there isn't more armor on military vehicles in Iraq is because it can't be made fast enough.

"There's no capacity is what Rumsfeld said," said Mark Frater, chief executive officer at R.E. Services, which began making lightweight armor for military vehicles earlier this year. "I'm just running one shift. I've got capacity. I could run around the clock if they gave me the orders."

And it's not the rest of the supply chain, either.

Possible solution: Put Rumi in a Humi and drive hime through Fallujah on a busy saturday evening. Then see how he feels about it.

    "Growing repair bill
Twenty-one months after U.S. forces entered Iraq, the Defense Department is only now coming to terms with the equipment shortages caused by the prolonged fighting there. The Pentagon has prepared an unprecedented emergency spending plan totaling nearly $100 billion — as much as $30 billion more than expected as recently as October — say senior defense officials and congressional budget aides. About $14 billion of that would go to repairing, replacing and upgrading an increasingly frayed arsenal.

"There's no lack of work and only more on the horizon," sighed Dennis L. Lewis, chief of the business office at the 29-square-mile depot. "There's no end in sight.""

I'm looking at the bright side of this. Maybe the subsequent inflation from this spending will make for 15% CDs I can dump my retirement funds into, just like my old man had in the '70s after Nam.

I believe i said this in a previous thread a while back. My brother has been over there almost a year, working in a garage as parts manager. He tells me how his division is keeping 50+ humvees and wreckers on the road with 1 tool box amongst 6 mechanics.

I have a bad feeling that those wreckers are awfully busy. Do you know how often Humvees break down, by chance? I read an article about Pat Tillman's death and, apparently, it was precipitated by a broken fuel pump on a Humvee.

Hmmm, and people wonder why we don't trust the Bush administration's numbers on anything. What could possibly be the reason for the increase in $$$ needed in two months? Couldn't be an election, could it?
