where to ride in mid april from banff, alberta

looks like I'll be done boot fitting in early to mid april, so looks like road trip time. (unless we get lots of snow, then I'll stay)

hoping that this will be under a 15 hour drive, and some singletrack.
    any ideas?

    vancouver island?

    bend?

just me, my mnt bike, and truck/camper

If you're near Castlegar on your way to or from your destination there will be singletrack open by then. Not the high elevation stuff but the bottoms parts of 5-6 trails of decent length
    You are what you eat.

Mntlion, did you not get down to Bend a few year's ago?

We've combined our annual spring ski trip with biking a few times down there. When we've gone early to mid-April it usually meant mostly lower elevation trails. Even the higher reaches of Phil's might have snow.

But I have to say, skiing in the morning, then biking in the afternoon, then beers in the evening is a pretty nice spring routine.

I'm just a tourist, so the local Bend mags will probably have a lot more detailed info.

My vote would be for the Island but im somewhat biased. We do really have it all as far as riding goes. Epic singletrack here in Campbell River and sick Downhill in nearby Comox Valley.Bring your skis if your here in April with a 500cm base already well have lots of snow left.

been to bend a few times now. Like the riding, free camping, good food etc. Just not sure if it is snow free or not.

Van island I have not been to yet, so that might be the better option?

Over 100km of technical singletrack. Ride right out of Loveland Bay Provincial park campground...

The BC Bike race is on Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast for a reason. Single track and camping you will have.

Most is good to go now, can't think of anything that wouldn't be in april except mt washington obviously and maybe some of the other stuff in comox valley (forbidden maybe?) but other than that it'll be awesome, I rode in a t shirt on xmas day couple years back.

Cool vid, called "Island winter video" http://www.pinkbike.com/video/180664/
