    Question Jongish digital picture question

I've got a few pictures that I would like to get enlarged (and don't give me that crap about how it doesn't make it longer, just lumpier). One of them is 1600x1200 (16.7 x 12.5 inches), and the other is 640x480 (6.7 x 5 inches).

Now this is a pretty dumb question, but I've never gotten any of my digital pictures developed, so can I just take the pictures in on a floppy disk (if I don't feel like leaving my memory card) to someplace like Walmart to get them enlarged and developed? And how big can they make them before the quality goes to shit?

I wanted to get one of them framed and give it to my Dad. Here is the smaller pic:
Yep, seen this before. Crazy liquor & cheeseburger party got out of control.

make the image at least 300 dpi and size it down to around 11x14. you can get a pre-fab frame easier that way. walmart, blah. go to a service bureau, professional printer, or kinkos with all the .jpg's or .tiff's on a cd.

that image might look nice on the thick watercolor style matte paper epson makes.

There are services that allow you to do this right over the internet. No need to get in the car.

The photo lab I go to (Smith’s Grocery Store) has a computer that can read all media forms. I just bring in my compact flash card, stick it in the right drive, and copy the images to their computer, and take my card back. No leaving anything anywhere. I would guess that a Walmart with a photo lab would have a similar setup.
There's a lot to be said for nowhere.

If you listen to non gratas advice that means your 1600x1200 picture can be printed 5.3x4, so basically you can get a standard 4x6 inch photo. You can probably push this a little and get a decent 5x7. Keep in mind some cropping is required to get to these aspect ratios. Your 640x480 is really too small to get much of a print from.

I have no idea what those inches numbers you are quoting mean (such as the 16.7 x 12.5 you mentioned).

Most PC photo printers work at about 150 dpi. Having a file with anything more than that is overkill. Not sure what your image size converts to, but changing the dimensions, ect. can be detrimental to the image quality so be careful. See if you can find a friend with photoshop and a good photo printer. Chances are you can probably get a good quality photo that way too. If you can't find anybody and want to go that route, PM me and I might be able to help you out....

Chains that offer photo finishing usually have Internet sites where you can upload the pictures and specify which store should print them. How vague is that?
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.
