I skipped out on Crystal as well. Seemed to be the right decision.
Went out and got shit faced on saturday night instead.

I'm sure conditions this year are making them as ornery as us.

well, my beef with the mountain was over our backpacks...FUBAR and I had left our packs at the base of REX, in the rack like everybody else. Mine had my lunch, a 12-pack of PBR, cameltoeback, hat, sunglasses, latherman, etc. inside, so it's all stuff I want back (esp. the PBR). So anyway, once they'd finally wheeled the lift enough with the diesel for us to get off of forest princess, some 'trollers at the top explained to us what had happened and told us they were shutting down the mountain, etc., etc. We'd already made up our minds to cut our losses and go home anyways, so no change in plan here.
Anyway we ski to REX, and all the packs that had been stored outside it were gone. THere were a bunch of 'trollers and mountain ambassador-types standing around, and they told us "we've got your packs, and we're taking the bags down to guest services, so go pick them up there." So, we ski down to guest services, get out vouchers, and ask about our packs, and they had no idea about any packs, we should go check with the Ski Patrol. So we go to the 'troll shack, which smell's like a troll's hairy armpits anyways, and ask about our packs, to which they say "yes, we're bringing them down, wait for them in the brown bag room."
well anyway, since when we got to REX the bags were already gone, and we'd already dicked around a bit over at guest services, so we'd given them plenty of time to bring the bags down. So I ask "they're not down yet?" I get no for an answer. THen I ask "So, do you have any idea how much longer it's going to be?", since sitting around in the dark in the brown bag room waiting for the patrol to get its ass in gear had about as much appeal as getting cornholed six ways from sunday. And the dude gives me a blank stare, and walks off.
I'd really been concerned about our skis - we'd left them sitting outside the base-area restrooms, just asking for some of Crystal's rampant ski theft. I wanted an ETA, really wanted him to get on the radio to find out where our bags were, so I could decide what to do about the skis. After this I decided mountain policy could go fuck itself, I was bringing the skis inside the lodge.
Anyway we ended up waiting at least a half an hour. And no they didn't bring the bags into the brown bag room, FUBAR had to go looking for them.
I did get the $20 voucher, so yeah I skied for 5 bucks, but still...
ah well, it was sliding on snow![]()
Annyone think its funny that customer service at crystal has a timeout room..
Its adjacent to the main room you walk in, if you have a complaint they tell you to step aside into this little room, where you talk to you through a little sliding window.. (not a counter like the other room has..) you know just in case you want to jump over and strangle them or something..
on the other hand I am really surpised you guys managed to get 20 dollar vouchers. that must be a first at crystal..
they would not refund me anything when all their lifts broke down except chinook last year.. yea that was fun..
Saturday was the day, you guys missed it!!!
6" of soft snow in Green Valley (under 2" of hard rain crust.) The crust was breakable and inconsistent and hard to ski in not to mention Tele in. Yes it was fun and there was a good turn to be had, I think I found it several times. If you kept the speed up you could blast thru the shit until the broken crap froze solid to a form I have not seen in a long time.....
Another great day in the PNW, home of the variable freezing level.![]()
They kinda had no choice. The whole mountain went down without power, and they stranded half the skiers on the lift.Originally Posted by dubu

You should have seen them handing out the $20 vouchers... it was like they were giving away one of their kids.

Jumper's little story is just evidence of one more thing (besides an open minded attitude embracing true freeriding) that Crystal is NOT known for- HALF WAY DECENT CUSTOMER SERVICE....some of their employees take asshole to a whole new level. My feelings towards Crystal right now aren't too obvious, are they guys???? And I had to laugh at them charging full prices first weekend. That is adorable....![]()
"You look like you just got schnitzled..."
OK, you guys have missed the point.
Skiing with a 12-pack of PBR in my backpack + Sitting in the dark + leading expeditions to take a piss in the darkness of the bathrooms = core.
I'm really disappointed nobody picked up on me skiing around with a 12-pack in the bag - that shit's not easy! It was like I had a baby gorilla on my back or something!!!![]()
wow, sounds like i missed a steallar opening day at xtal.
if it makes anybody feel any better cali wasn't that fresh. they got snow (which is something) but they also got a warm storm on wednesday that dropped 4 inches of rain all the way over the summit. there were rain gutters running down the hill all over the place. the drinking wasn't even that good.
i just hope that things start going in the right winter and snow direction soon, cuz this is starting to hurt my feelings.
anybody want to ride bikes this weekend? no really. Guh-fucking-errrr!
