I'm prolly selling my skis to someone in Dublin, but i've got no experience in shipping large stuff and dealing with the payment etc.. Have any suggestions as to what I should think about, how payment should be arranged, etc.
Paypal is pretty easy and if the buyer already has an account so much the better. You will have to pay a small commission (typically 2-3%) but that can often be built into the asking price.
The continental system of exchanging bank account details doesn't work so well when transferring money from a UK bank to a foreign one. The banks want a charge (usually around €15) and you have to visit the branch in person and fill in a form. Unbelievable.
Although Ireland isn't technically the UK, I wouldn't be surpriised if they had a similar banking system. I could be wrong.
I'm pretty sure that there's some sort of banking law that makes it easy/cheap (free?) to transfer money between bank accounts in different countries as long as both countries are in the Euro Zone. Ireland is on the Euro.
But having said that, PayPal is the way to go. Don't bother transferring the money into your bank account, just buy more stuff on eBay.
