Oh, I WAS so in, but my ride bailed on me saying that he'd rather hit Snow Valley, and driving 4hrs for wiwaxy wasn't worth it. psha indeed.

I wasn't going to go this year. Can't justify the $$ for one run on opening day.

But now I really, really, really want to go!

Luckily I have to work on Friday, so I guess I'll be hiking the pow at Nakiska on Sunday instead.

Like I said I'll be there. A couple of guys were up today doing some promo stuff and word is upper wiwaxy is in great shape. Like buffed smooth great grippy snow. At least a bit of pitch.

Probably make an appearance Saturday. It's really not worth the cash but it is the first turns of the season. But hiking up Nakiska doesn't look like a bad idea. I tried Fortress last weekend and there wasn't enought snow on the front.

Heading up tommorow, but hiking on the weekend sounds good, too.
The midnight runs on the 50' hill across from my house were only fun long enough to freak out the neighbors when they woke up in the morning.

Upper Wiwaxy? Will they be running Olympic chair as well as Glacier? That would add more vertical and for sure make it more interesting.

    Of course there's always COP.

I talked to them today. They're only running one lift. Upper is supposed to be real good but they're not going to offer a way to get to it. I'm not sure if they'll run it Sat or not. By the way, Charlie has nothing to do with day to day operations as of a week yesterday.

I'd heard the rumour that Charlie had resigned/retired, but I didn't dare hope it was true.

Now we just need for Ralphie to pack it in. Now that would really make this a banner season - before it even begins.

Enjoy The Lake tomorrow, and smile for the webcams.

well Wiwaxy was a happening thing. Felt damn good to be on skis and much better than last year when it happened 2 weeks out of surgery. Don't know what the talk of upper Wiwaxy was, it looks like crap. Maybe if you cut off on the upper cat track but then what would be the point? Mid day it got scary busy with tons of snowboarders. Thank god the bulk of them can't get out of bed before 10 or so.
Had a Charlie sighting which surprised me. He didn't see me so I didn't have to talk to him. Powslut was there. There's some ski packing happening on the mountain and good snow load on fence lines in some critical spots.

Good to see the season is underway, even though I couldn't be there.

How's things looking on some of the other runs? Any signs of snowmaking on Cameron or up on Eagle? It doesn't look like we're gonna get much real snow in the next week, so hopefully the guns will lay down some base in the meantime.

Supposed to be opening day at SSV on Friday, but I think that is dubious unless we get some big snow. I had some good turns up there a week ago, but we had to get really creative in order to do it.

For all the talk of expanded snow making it all looked the same to me, all the guns running were on the downhill course. The waterfall pitch on the course hasn't even been started on. Apparently they're close to having access to the back off of Pika and some went to try skiing through the saddle. Hopefully they've been making snow on Larch and it's close. I can't see Sunshine happening just yet either.

Some shots from the Lake yesterday, not bad for Nov 8, but needs another good dump. Better than what I hoped yesterday, anyway, first turns of the year feel pretty good.

I was talking to the snow safety director from lake louise a couple nights ago and its looking like with another ~30cms of snow they will be able to open up a significant amount of terrain on the mountain. apparently there is an incredibly hard and inpenetrable crust about 40cm of the ground in the backbowls which spells disaster for backcountry skiing but is a good sign for opening controlled terrain quick.

A reliable source also told me sunshine will not be opening on friday. The snow on divide is meant to be good, but getting to the village is treacherous.
