    Hey!! Guess what, I'm British!!

Yup. I'm now officially a British subject. My birth is registered with the British consolate. Now I can get a British passport! Which means, I can work anywhere in the EU, I believe! This is really cool, and I'm excited. My dad was born in England, so now I'm a dual-ie!!

Watch out Roos, here I come!

    Nice one!

Welcome to the nation of chavs, crap weather and few mountains!

We would love to see you over this side. Come to London! If you're going to be anywhere, it's the ONLY place to see life (when you're young).

Just remember that you can now introduce the Random Chaz Factor as "My Countryman."

I know! I think this is the real reason I decided (well, my dad did...thanks dad...) to register my birth!

Now it's off to the British consulate to get my passport...

    Good resource: http://www.britainusa.com/

Actually, you can only send in info to get your passport to Washington D.C. and you'd find that info out by browsing the site...

    Chavs

"These people have no apparent individuality- they cluster together and make strange noises to communicate with each other. They instinctively hate anyone who does not belong to their tribe and demonstrate this by making aggressive noises and repeatedly threatening their victim until they die of laughter.

Chavs, by instinct are obsessed with the WWF- they believe that everything that it contains is absolute reality- their dedication to this ‘sport’ is almost religious. They idolise each of the actors they see and mimic their on screen performances in a much more aggressive fashion.

They also seem to wish to accumulate as much jewlery as they possibly can within their lifetime. This gold is mainly accumulated via their instictive stealth and cunning at evading police capture. An interesting result of this magpie-like behavior is that they seem to be drawn towards Christian symbols such as the cross- but still calim to have no religious attatchment (other than that of wrestling). It is not uncommon to see a chav wearing a big golden cross whilst carrying out theivery and other ‘un-christian’ acts."

BAHAHAHAHAH!!! Is this true? Are these what "Chavs" are? Am I screwed?

Sweet! Yeah, I'm most definitely going to take advantage of it by going over to the EU (can I work anywhere in the EU that I want, with a British passport?) and working for a year or two. Probably in about 4-5 years. I'm going to pack Legoskier in my suitcase and take him with me. He'll do some funky bio-nanotech research somewhere, and I'll find a job as an arch-e-techt. Maybe I'll work in a cafe first to break the language barrier. Hopefully France or some English speaking country near the mountains.

How about New Zealand? Can I work there as easily as in Europe? They have mountains. I could pack Lego up and take him with me there, too.....

Lego will be one big piece of carry on luggage. I doubt he'll fit in either the overhead compartment or under the seat infront of you.

Hmm. Getting a job in a cafe without being able to speak the local lingo might be a tad difficile. Except in England, I think they speak american there?

I hear they have mountains in Scotland.
...on a more serious note Geneva is the only place I can think of that could be labelled "english speaking" and near the mountains. And anywhere in Scandinavia, but it'd be a big mistake to stay out of the Alps. If you're working with a 4-5 year timeframe anyways do yourself a BIG favor and learn some german or french before you go. having an understanding of the basics (and being able to expres simple sentences etc.) will make getting odd jobs, aquiring contacts, finding accomodation, hitting on ze french freeraider etc. much easier. And with a bit of theoretical language basis you'll be fluent(lyish) in no time as you'll actually be speaking and thus learning the language instead of getting along in english.

Telepath - hey there, thanks for the sound advice Heh, heh. Actually, I took only a year of French while in college, and believe I can pick it up pretty quick if I'm living in the country for about 3 months before getting a job.

I could go there within the next two years, I just said I'd look for a job in the next 4-5 years because I don't know what's ahead for me, and honestly it doesn't matter at this point...just as long as I get to do this while I'm still young-ish. And yes, I'll learn the lingo before I go. The whole cafe thing...I was also speaking to the fact that sometimes the English in England can be figured as a foreign language

On your serious note - thanks for the advice, and I'll see you when I get there

So True. The Brit in my ski house got pulled over all the time. He always got warnings instead of tickets.

Dual citizenship would be great. To bad I'm stuck with the only country that has recent enough ancestry to help out being Switzerland (and gaining citizenship there requires military service which nukes my US citizenship).

Three??? How the hell did you pull that one off SP?
I know I'm eligible for a third one, but I thought that the US only allowed for two, and I would loose my US if I got the third EU one. Them canucks don't seem to care though.

I believe this opens the gates of British Columbia for you. I hear they have mountains, skiing and such
