Light the first of eight candles for Light. Tomorrow’s candle represents Knowledge. Then Justice, Mercy, Holiness, Love, Patience and Courage on the eighth night. We're city yids, and celebrate Christmas with a roast beef

Oy, you mean I'm not the only one slaving over a brisket today?
I will say this; it's kind of cool putting food in the oven, going skiing, then coming home to a house that smells like the holidays from when I was growing up in NYC.

Oh, and we got a cool new menorah for this year, it's a "Meno-rock", made out of redrock from the Moab area!

    Exclamation

Growing up 1/2 Mick Protestant and 1/2 Russian Hebe was always a bit confusing. Santa didn't bring the dradle, the dradle didn't fit in the minorah, the minorah set the tree on fire but the fire didn't last for eight days.

After a while, I decided that I liked Christmas more because it was always the same day. But then I realized that Jewish people don't have all those constraining rules and nobody died on a cross for me, which was much more convenient during my formative years. But then someone said that Jeebus was Jewish and a carpenter to boot (I loved woodworking). So if he died for me, who do I owe? Seemed like everyone wanted something or some sort of commitment in their direction, and as any ex of mine can tell you, commitment just ain't my thing. So I started to read about Budhism to maybe find some sort of answer and this only confused me more because while I liked the idea of Karma, there was no way I could ever give up hunting. After going to both Judiac and Presbyterian sunday schools, an episcopal elementary school and a catholic prep school, I finally gave religion up for lent and commited myself to skiing.

    Happy Christmakuhanzadan.

    Happy Chanukah to all!

Barukh atah Adonai, Elohaynu, melekh ha-olam
    asher keedishanu b'meetzvotav v'tzeevanu
    l’had’lik neir shel Chanukkah

    Translation (for the Hebrew challenged):
Blessed are you, Lord, our God, king of the universe
who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us
to light the candles of Chanukkah.
Of all the muthafuckas on earth, you the muthafuckest.
