Spotted at the Truckee Hospice thrift store: TX Pros for $120. Size? The shells are stamped "9/10", and the sole length is 316mm.

Depends on your expected performance level. Scarpa 28.5-29 shell fits me and I wear 12-13 shoe

Too true. If they will fit, Voile sells replacements throws for their bindings for $14. https://www.voile.com/voile-telemark-binding-parts.html

I'm an intermittent tele guy and I think I'm ready for NTN. Sometimes I ski smaller eastern or midwestern hills and they are always more fun with freeheel. Need releasability (I think) as I had 2 pre-DIN lower leg fractures and 15 years ago a femur break with Hammerheads (I don't believe releasability could have prevented the femur break, but what the hell do I know). So which (used) bindings are good at retaining/releasing, not finicky, and don't cost an arm and a leg? And which boots accomodate a wide forefoot best? Currently have 26.0 T1s and I like their stiffness but IIRC my old Garmonts had slightly wider bellows for my foot. Thanks in advance

charlesj - the Scarpa NTN boots have a wider last than the old duck billed versions so they will likely be more comfortable. You really only have two options - TX Pro or TX Comp (stiffer). Find some used and see how they fit.

The Rottefella and Meidjo are “releasable” in that they have a separate spring for rear release. Tele tech bindings (front two pin) may release.

    Welcome back.

I modified my 7TM's with hardwire cables, cartridges and throws. A lot better than stock (but still pretty flexy). Definitely worth doing if you have the parts lying around.

Plate o' shrimp, I just skied NTN for the first time today. Outlaw X mounted on some Dynastar Legend 106s that were previously mounted fixed-heel (and some TX Pros that I bought off of mikeyb). Super dialed in terms of edge control or whatever, doing fast parallel turn cruising, I felt just as secure as on regular downhill gear. Tele turns will take a little getting used to, mainly because I have a history of using soft tele boots and not particularly active bindings, so I'm tending to oversteer the rear ski unless I'm careful. Tele turns are solid though when I'm adjusting my habits appropriately.

Village ski in Lincoln NH has demo ntn stuff. You can swap boots during the day to find your fit. They had scarpa. My demo skis were rottefella on K2.
Based on my experience, skip dicking around with random old stuff and bite the bullet when you can for the proper gear.
I find Telemark ironically expensive considering the vibe.

Good to have and share info about shop demos. I recall stepping into the shop in mammoth to scope their demo skis a few years ago and they all required boots that accept pin binding (ie lynx).

I'll probably rent some stuff there this weekend. I am bringing Alpine gear but might do a day of tele. Cant wait to make clouds of chalk dust! Maybe some other clouds, too...

Hope to see you there, Jason!

And yeah, if you're an intermediate free heeler, time to invest in some NTN bindings. It'a a whole not-so-new world.

Urmas literally taught me how to tele ski. I learned when in the Marine corps as one of the dorks at mammoth skiing around in marpat.

His cue to us for even pressure on our skis was always to pretend we had a weight tied to are balls and to get the pressure off you gotta go straight up and down.

I spent a day lapping chair 23 with one of the marine instructors during his day off. He was from Georgia with no snow or skiing experiencing until getting shipped out to the training center. A very good skier. It was a super fun day.

Was he on the all-white Voile ski / Switchback X2 combos that are all over ebay right now? Someone is dumping a lot of surplus...

No. He was on his personal all modern equipment available at that time, such as t[emoji637]’s. Pre-dates switchback existence.

Hey y’all - long time since I’ve checked in. Been out skiing a bit but not enough, due to work and kinda shitty conditions.

On the subject of barely used 75mm boots I’m holding 2 pairs of ener-G 27.5. Could definitely part with one pair as all my rigs are NTN.

If someone needs them drop a line. $100 if you wanna pick them up in Brighton or SLC.

And haha yeah I like to have a lot of backup shit in stock even though they might not get much action. To that point tho the only skis I’ve got with Axl at the moment are OG white room Renegades. They’ll see a nice resort pow day this season guaranteed![emoji23]

Keep on shreddin on, tele posse. Gimme a shout if you find yourself droppin the knee in Brighton!

    Telemark skiing is dead.

Need Scarpa twenty five five slash twenty six. Twenty years after the early adopters, I’m going to drink the NTN Kool-Aid. Telemark is better for one’s health. I care. Looking for something in decent condition, I’m very fkn frugal though, so I might be looking for a while. When I get boots and bindings sorted I’ll have some good T ones and bindings to delete. Thanks

So much fun I’m surprised it’s still legal (hoping the picture loads properly but if not, it’s my Line Sakanas with Outlaw X). Looking to acquire some more fun shapes instead of just another midfat freeride ski. Thinking maybe a Mirus Cor or something fully rockered next.
