"Stoy, thanks for the goggles" TR 12-6-04

Lame TR, but my point in this thread is to tell you that it is DUMPING! I skied Chicken Hill today and there was easily 8-10" of super light density fluff on top of the already light density fluff from Thanksgiving.

Sled at the super short approach to Chicken Hill

Made a few quick laps. Thanks for the goggles Stoy.

So here's the deal. Thursday I am taking the sled out to an undisclosed location that we spoke of on 12-3-04. It will be a four to five mile easy sled ride in. Park at the base of the skin track, and ski your brains out all day. Each run will end at the sled, the barbecue, the brats, the beers, the wine, and the cookies.

I will likely be getting a later start thursday. Like around 11am. This is still PLENTY of time to ski until your legs are jelly.

I have room for myself and 7 others. Pony up now. GT40, Lumpy, Stoy, Twoplanker, whoever. Just bring something good to eat and get ready to be plowing pow.

I like you. I'm in. What about Wed. or Thursday? Also, Boy, do i have some terrain to show you! Holy moly. Just need another 3-5 feet to truly make it an epic day...the in and out are pretty hairball right now.

By the way, thank jen for the goggles.

And...once we get at least 5 more feet...i am thinking of an all out epic day, Ski off White pine knob down to the basin, up the other side to ski Magicland, up the next side and off of Steammill peak, and out Franklin Basin. i'm thinking 9 hours...maybe 4000' skiing...from steep and deep to mellow and fast in the glades. Ohhhh we need more snow!

I would have liked to have gone today but my legs are worked! My knee is aching, my left upper quad aches...hell, my hands ache. so much touring, skiing, and some climbing involved the past few days = pain.

Ok...I am on vacation from work all this week, after tonight! Put me down for a tentative yes, Lumpy do you want to carpool?

I have to clear out one thing and will edit this post to confirm 100% when that is done.

I will bring video support in the form of a helmet camera, and some high quality food & beers smuggled back in from parts unknown...

    We now have:

    Lumpy bringing Salmon.
Stoy bringing beer and other goodies.
    Redbaron tentative.

Seems like we might have more calories in beer than in food. Hmmmm.....don't know if that equates to a productive day skiing, or a typical day sledding.

    Twoplanker? Gramps? APD?

I might be able to get out earlier than 11a thursday. But even leaving at 11a, we will have everybody at the start of the skintrack no later than noon. Then 5.5 hours until darkness sets in. I think we can get it done in that amount of time.

    Thumbs up

I would absolutely be there, if I wasn't going to the 3 day steeps camp the next day.

I think I better save my leg. I'm not like Stoy (Mr Never Gets Tired).

Please count me in for the next one.
I want a 6" travel 20lb MTB. I found the 20lb MTB, but only good for riders under 87 pounds.

Refreshments for all...In addition to a main dish high in Omega-3 oils. Always need to have some Canadian Brown on hand to ward off late afternoon chills. Strictly for medicinal purposes.

Uhh I want to go so bad. I'm hearing the north is gonna get dumped on. Let me look into my schedule...

Damn, that's the last day of classes. I'd skip mine, but I need to find someone else to do the same, so I can split gas money, etc. My schedule is opening up in a week or so - then it's on

I'll be heading up from Draper. RB might be 'pooling with me, and Ive got a quad cab, so we can cram summore in (as long as MY boots stay in the cab ).

I'll call the Pa in law and see if I can't borrow a sled...my rig comprendos with the trailer lighting system now.

All b/c trips are now a product of the Stoy/Trackhead weightloss program. Salmon, hooch, and pow are a big part of the diet.

Well, the skiing could be good here by thurs too. I don't have class until 4:00 PM, so I could go get a whole day around here and still make it to class. Makes it kind of hard to justify driving up to logan and skipping class. I might still do it, I'll have to see.

What are you up to on Friday Trackhead? That's our "reading day" basically = three day weekend. I could get up there, ski on Friday, stay with some friends in Ogden on Fri night, and then maybe hit up powder mtn. or something on saturday... And then get back home in time to study for finals next week

Friday I was going to try AGAIN to go to the Big U's, but if it dumps, i'll stay local. I only want to go to the U's to ski off peaks, not yo-yo. So if that's not an option, I'm not going.

Either way Friday is my "ski all fucking day" day. You're welcome to come up here and hook up if you want.

My wife and I just got back from sledding over the pass to Swan Flat. There is only 3 inches or so at the top of the pass. But up at White Pine Knob at 11am today there was easily ten inches. And it was DUMPING when I left. I bet they get atleast 2feet up there.

We got two inches at our house above the lake.

And Lumpy, I'm proud of you, you're really coming around. Maybe I'll hire you as my chef de jour for my guided snowcat business.

That's good news Trackhead. I'll try to get things in order for Friday then. We'll have to see how much the Uintas get out of the systems this week. You're set up for a lot of snow up there - this could be the weekend for me to make the trip. UAC said 12-18" for you guys just in this first shot of precipitation... Seeing as how we'd only go to the Uintas if they didn't get much snow, it might be hard for you to leave choking deep pow for hardpack in the Uintas.....

Is it steep enough for 2 feet? Might have to change plans and head elsewhere for some pitch.

Have noticed two weak layers forming in the snowpack, also something to look into. SE through W slopes have a thick crust with a very weak layer underneath which could be trouble.

We also got a 3 foot pit to drop out at the snow/soil interface. Was a four inch rot layer...if something goes, could be catastrophic! And hopefully it does on the N side of the Knob, Prov Canyon, Magicland, and Pine canyon inthe Wells.

We'll talk. Be at the Beavis at 2ish for some turns if no one is working.

Stoy, I think it will be steep enough for turns. I'll be up there wednesday evening to check it out before we all head up there.

If it's tooo deep (god forbid ), I don't know how much steeper I would want to ski with the avy possibilities.

Either way, trail breaking is going to be a bitch. Today was hard enough with the 10 or so inches on top of the existing light and dry.

I think we can effectively toss this one out. There is actually tooo much snow right now.

Tomorrow will be about light foot travel and staying the heck away from everything and anything that could conceivably slide.

    Next time.
