Can't say I like him, but I certainly respect the fuckl out of the guy. Hell of a performer and an amazing and overlooked guitarist.

I saw him play probably 6 years ago when he played a bunch of shows in St. Paul. Felt absolutely robbed.

First off the show started like 2-3 hours late

Second he probably spend half his time doing costume changes, and the remainder of the time was spent doing medleys.

Glad you had a much better experience than I...

Missed seeing him at the Rio in Vegas by 2 weeks. From the reviews I read he was totally unpredictable. Would show up late, would play until 5 AM, and would play anything from the Foo Fighters to Louis Armstrong. Guess he just feeds off the crowds energy? Or it could be Prince and he does whatever the hell he wants?

I really dig a few of his songs, though most are meh. How can you not like Little Red Corvette? But yeah, hell of a performer and you are dead on about his guitar skillz

When he was tapped to do the halftime at the superbowl I was thinking that was the dumbest idea. How many diehard NFL fans will enjoy Prince prancing around the stage dressed in purple spandex singing in his high pitched voice? I figured this would be a huge failure.

Then Prince came out and destroyed it.

The reason he covers Foo Fighters is that he got pissed when they covered one of his songs. So he covers "Best of You" as some sort of dis to them. Saw an interview with the Foo Fighters where they talk about watching the halftime show and being a bit shocked when he covers them. But overall they seemed pretty stoked, especially since Prince kills it.

I remember watching it live, and when this popped up thinking "Only Prince!"

Stumbled across this gem the other night and had to post it...

Sly and Jimi had a baby. Uncle JB dropped by from time to time. Heady brew!
The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.

Gotta wonder about the whole Prince was mad at The Foo Figjters covering one of his songs angle…cuz it sounds like he and DG were kinda cool:

Also, watching that Inglewood clip above made me realize that Prince was a lot like the Grateful Dead: he really was all about the live performances.
His albums are nothing like those live clips.
I think the reason I only ever saw him once is because while I like many of his albums, they didn’t grab me enough to want to see him live.

But seeing those clips. Damn. Wish I’d seen one of his arena gigs.

I mean that SB 1/2 time show? He packed more energy and insanity into 12-minutes than most bands are able to do in a 2 hour show!

    Prince

And the season after nipplegate, he jerks off his guitar in the rain and no one says boo [emoji23]

Loved prince and he was def part of my college soundtrack but never really thought of him as a “guitarist” until the My Guitar Gentle Weeps solo. Holy shit that was a wake up call. Best since Hendrix imo

^i think you just nailed it.
I never thought of him as a virtuoso guitarist, either. That side of him never really came out on his albums.

His 1987 concert film, Sign ‘O The Times, is really good.

    I highly recommend watching it.
(Streaming on Peacock, Tubi, and Roku Channel)

I remember seeing it in the theater when I was a sophomore in college and being blown away. Why I never went to see him live after that introduction is still a mystery to me.

I re-visited it a year or so ago and it still holds up as one of the great concert videos of all time, imho.

Saw Prince. Amazing live show. You danced the whole freaking show. The energy was incredible throughout every single person in the building. It definitely felt like a big party.
