    Removing ESS VAR bindings

Trying to remove some ESS VAR Racing alpine bindings from a pair of skis. A search found this thread:

    http://tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2383

But this binding jong can't figure out how to get the heel & metal piece off & I don't see the ears mentioned in the thread. No mounting screws are accessable. Anyone know how to pull these things?

I don't know what the 'ears' are either. Wait maybe the ears are the tabs on the side of the afd and there are two not just one. Pry those and and that allows the afd to slide. Like Bossass says below it's pretty easy after that.

Just remove the afd plate on ess there was a little tab on the side I think that you pull out to allow it to slide toward the heel and lift off.

Take out the big screw at the junction of the two bands that was under the afd. Pull the one band up out of the squiggly cut out of the other band.

Lift the toe vari zone lever and slide the toe all the way forward right off the track. Back the screws in the track out of the ski.

Push the heel back until two notches in the band line up over two screw heads. Take those screws right out.

Now push the heel all the way forward you should expose 2 screws and back them out of the ski.

That should do it but I haven't looked at one for a long time.

I just did it a few weeks ago and I had to have someone show me. L7s description sounds pretty on from what I recall. Just get a screwdriver under that flap on the right side of the AFD plate and it should release. It's pretty easy to figure out after that.

Found the flap on the AFD, that was the trick. It all comes apart ez now. Thank you very much, been gnashing my teeth & rending my garments for a while over this.

They're on a pair of 1950's era 210cm Head Deep Powders. Gonna be stylin' soon.

Took me awhile to figure out the ESS VAR's too. Pain in the ass.
