An Oakland County sheriff's deputy received an unwelcome topping on his order at a fast-food restaurant, Local 4 reported.
Jon McQuater, 20, a former employee at the Burger King in Oxford Township is accused of spitting on the deputy's sandwich.
"He ordered a chicken sandwich without lettuce and other kinds of accoutrements and ended up being able to see right there, 'That's definitely not part of the chicken,'" said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.
Jacqueline Rowland, a 20-year-old employee at the restaurant, handed the deputy the sandwich at the drive-through window.
Bouchard said the deputy inspected the sandwich after he was suspicious of the loose wrapping around it.
Rowland and McQuater were arraigned in Rochester Hills District Court on Wednesday.
Both were charged with food tampering, a felony punishable by four years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
McQuater remains jailed on a $5,000 bond.
He's also suspected in an arson fire and is bandaged from the burns he allegedly suffered in the blaze, the station reported.
A witness told authorities that the two employees laughed about giving the sandwich to the deputy, but Rowland is still employed at the restaurant.
A Burger King spokesman said Rowland has been working there for four years and is a model employee. The restaurant believes she did not have knowledge of the alleged tampering.
Bouchard said of the incident that it wasn't the first time an officer in uniform has been the target of a prank, the station reported.
"It's disgusting and it saddens you," Bouchard said. "But, we know it happens and unfortunately, men and women in law enforcement know to be on a lookout for it."
