The co-captains of Danvers High School's boozed-up cheerleading squad were in court yesterday, one day after the pair were cuffed for cursing out school officials who had hauled the drunk girls and several others off an Endicott College football field minutes before a playoff game.
``They were verbally abusive to school staff and their coaches, swearing up and down at them and saying things they shouldn't have,'' said Beverly Sgt. Joseph Shairs, who was astounded at parents' questioning police involvement.
``These girls are supposed to be tossing other students in the air and catching them and you think this is OK?''
The two 17-year-olds were arrested on disorderly conduct charges when they continued with their obscentity-laden tirade despite repeated requests from cops to quiet down. The girls were arraigned in Salem District Court yesterday.
Shairs said two Danvers school officials approached Beverly cops minutes before the game. The group of eight to 10 girls was pulled to the sidelines, where Shairs said they appeared glassy-eyed, slurred their speech and reeked of booze.
Walpole defeated Danvers, 19-14.
