    Nordica Beast Mounting

I got my new skis today and am wicked excited. Is the cross in the middle of the "twintip technology" circle for boot center? and if it is, those of you that have skied them should i stick with it, or is it to far forward similar to some other twin tipped fat skis? did a search, only found review on skis, not mounting.
    Thanks

i also have this question. as for the prescribed mounting point, there is an "I" on the sidewall which is where the manufacturers boot center is to be (not where it says 'twin tip...'). i've heard as far as 3 cm back?

    thanks

    Mounting Point

Guys - Sad to say that there are no clear answers only because many of these skis are different, and also it is going to depend on what you are going to do.

Simply put - are you buying the jib ski so that you can free ride and occasionally go in the park? Or are you going to be in the park and pipe most of the time with only a little free riding?

Depending on the ski, and what you are going to be using the ski for predominantly will determine where to mount.

Armada has a certain mounting area, and Dynastar is a little different. Seth Pistols are a little different than both. So anyhow, a little more info for the masses might get you a better response.

OK - So I am a moron.... saw the thread title again. So I know what skis, but still the question remains, what are you going to use it for most?

    My Beast boots rock.

    You misunderstand.

It's the company that sucks ass.

They are like Marker. No direction. No dedication. Just marketing. They don't care about their customers at all once they've made a purchase and have a shitty service attitude.

IMO, center mounting or mounting back of center with any ski depends on your skiing style and the flex inherent to the ski.

When I had my Beasts, they were mounted center without consulting me. I enjoyed them in all conditions except the snorkel-deep days because when I leaned into the tails to stay afloat, they scrubbed too much of my speed.

    Talked with Nordica

Hey guys - talked with Nordica rep today. For general riding occasional park and pipe mount at center. For more park and pipe go about 1.5 to 3 back.

Maybe he wasn't smoking crack. Maybe that Nordica rep was as big of a douche as the one that was just at Keystone.

Are yours the 92TT/12TT with the red topsheet or this year's with the black/red tribal topsheet? The rep says they moved the mark back on this year's, so my comments only apply to the red ones.

As people have mentioned, the "|" on the sidewall is the boot center mark. It's great for hardpack but too far forward for pow unless you're doing lots of flippy-spinny.

For all-mountain I'd go 2-3cm back depending on how much ramp you have in your boot/binding -- that's where I'm remounting mine.

I have a love/hate relationship with mine. They're so much fun to ski, but they delam really easily. Boat epoxy and a Dremel will be your friend.

    how far back?

and did he mention any attempts to solve this delaming problem (mine are in a container now in the atlantic, hope that doesn't delam them too )

Don't know how far back they moved it, but boot center on my red 188s is appx. 101.5 cm back from the tip of the ski, measured with a tape along the curvature of the tip (i.e. tape contacting ski all the way down).

The other solution to delamming is to do it within a year so you can get a warranty pair.

Lots of people hate on Nordica, but the big red Beasts are the most versatile fat ski I've tried. They hold a great carve on hardpack, are really easy to turn in crud and mank, and are fat enough for any conditions. If you're not too heavy for them, they're an excellent ski.

    Thumbs up

Bas, I rode my Beasts really hard last season and I didn't have any delamming whatsoever.

As spats said, they kicked ass in all conditions except powder with the recommended mount. Mine were mounted at the recommended spot and I hated it in powder. I usually just broke out my skinnier Big Stix on pow days.

I'd pick up a pair of 92TT/12TT again in a heartbeat and have them mounted a few cm's back.

got a pair cheap on ebay and skied them the past 4 days in cham. given the advice here, i mounted them 2 cm back from boot center with a pair of solly 912 ti's (but i may switch my freerides onto these). skied them on deep spring slush, corn, windblown pow, groomers, a lot of different snow and was very pleased. i'm more of a turner than a burner, so i can't vouch for super high speed stability, but for me they were exactly what i was looking for (light, woodcore, fat). i hit a load of rocks as well and so far so good.
