MOVED, BIATCH: I skied Prophets today

    One word: big.

Shop demo day at Sugar Bowl today. I skied a lot of skis, I'm sure I'm forgetting some...

Skis that I'd never been on before that I liked today:
K2 Apache Crossfire - these things rip the grooomers. Next dry spell, I think I'll take these to the mountain.
K2 Seth Pistol - Was suprised by the groomer perfomance, I thought it'd be ok with the shovel design, but even better than I thought. Plus, the pow/crud abilities are obvious.
Blizzard Sigma X Cross Ti - another groomer ripper.
Line Mothership Ti - liked it so much, I'm getting some.
Dyanstar Legend Exclusive - yep, I skied a women's ski...and it wasn't bad at all! If you know a girl who really charges, but maybe isn't big enough to ski a unisex ski, this is probably the one for her.

Skis that did not impress me:
K2 Apache Recon - not as much metal as the Crossfire, and you can tell.
Dynastar Legend 8800 - could be because they only had 178's when I went up, but they felt squirelly in the tips. Would like to ride the 188.
K2 Public Enemy - skied these in a 179. Had heard a lot about the "all-mountain" ability, but I wasn't impressed. Just didn't feel very lively.
Dynastar Cross 9 - too grabby. felt good in short slalom turns, but didn't want to really make big carves or straightline.

I also skied some Legend Pro's, but there wasn't enough snow to really get a feel for them.

I managed to find a mix of boot deep crud and fresh in the trees off Mt. Jackson to try and get a feel for the Prophets. Well, let's say they're not a tree ski. It just wants to go straight and fast. I would love to have these in a big bowl full of untracked freshies, I doubt they would have a speed limit. Kinda feel like Spatulas as far as the sliding motion for turns, but not nearly as maneuverable. I told our rep that they should reverse the sidecut and the camber, and it would be even better. He says that everyone says that.

over the weekend in mammoth i also skied the prophets. Not something I wouldn’t normally do, but I just had to know what I feels like to have 130 underfoot.

Weird. What i noticed most was that the ski had no edge (which is unnecessary in pow.) I always felt like the ski had no bite, no matter how much down/forward pressure i used i still couldn't hold and edge. In the cut up stuff the ski was squirrelly, it I felt like I was riding in the back seat. I think that speed helped a little but not much, just no bite. Very easy to sideslip, I felt like Shane in Focused. The center spin point is large and very easy to find and I could switch from forward to backwards almost effortlessly. I was riding in the back mounting holes (maybe a bad call) but It shouldn’t have made that much of a difference. At speed I thought the ski was to flimsy both in the crud and on the groomer. The turning response was slow but that is to be expected with a huge ski. Definitely some spatula design elements that I didn’t expect, the conditions didn’t let me review the ski in its natural habitat so take this review with a grain of sait..

    What the ski dose good.
Skis Switch- even in cut up pow,
    Side slipping at full speed.
    Slow wide fast turns

    What the ski dose bad
Edge hold. Non existent, on the groomer It carves Ok just slow.
Not a stiff ski- even though they advertise it that way
The Ass likes to slide out and send you into a slideslip
Straitlining just seemed weird because of the flopping tip and tail.

Slow and fast? I guess you mean high speed and low frequency, right?
