    Update on Greener

Since that other thread has turned into As the Bird Turns, i'll post this here. Nicole, Rob's girlfriends, sent me an update this morning. Sounds like he's still having a tough go. I posted her e-mail at P-mag, (and I'm gonna make someone go back home to get it ).

    Derek,

I just wanted to drop a line and say thanks for the care package to Rob – it meant a lot to him and he was stoked (he’s also happy about his annual pic too). Just to give you an update, he stayed in the hospital for 20 days, had six surgeries, and still needs a bone graft (they take a piece of bone from his hip or leg and put it in his tib).

After his second surgery they found an infection which scared the hell out of us. The doctor informed us that his bone may be dead because the tissue was good, so it was probably a bone infection. Right before his sixth surgery, we pulled out and asked to be transferred to University Hospital. At this point he had 5 surgeries in 13 days and we felt it was too hard on his body.

At the University Hospital, they burred his bone to remove any dead bone and now he needs a bone graft to fill that area in. Crazy, huh? It’s hard to believe this ***** happened while making a pow turn.

    That's brutal.

Posted the call for good vibes on Skier's Journal also. Saw Nick last weekend and he said it's been good for Rob to be home for a while... was starting to get sick of the whole sick hospital scene. He's surrounded by a lot of good people, so keep up the love!

so, i used to be a powder maggot, back when that was the appropriate word. some of you might remember me. i've been lurking for a few months, but never really had anything to say until now.

    Mr. Dineen-
any chance Rob is checking emails? i want to let him know that some of his old racing buddies are pulling for him. i haven't seen him for like 3 years, but a bunch of us that used to race on snowbird with him are sending the vibes his way. if he does have email, please PM me so i can pass on the good word. is he up in bosie, or down here? i would assume the latter, but you never know...
anyway, vibes and positivity coming from the other canyon.

Forget the broken bones. Forget the surgeries. Laying in a hospital bed for twenty days is enough to fuck over any healthy body. All that inactivity allowing your muscles to deteriorate is almost worse than being cut open a dozen times.

    No, it's not.
Every time your body starts healing & get sliced open again (along with being anesthetized, etc.) , it wreaks havoc on your body. 5 surgeries in 2 weeks is traumatic. Your body NEEDS that time. Muscles come back fairly quick.

    Heal fast, Rob.

Please excuse my ignorance but how did he do this? That sounds like a real nasty situation. I hope he has some good doctors/surgeons working on him. Good luck, man.
