In an emergency meeting between maginions of the PNW and BC region, we have decided to take urgent action. We are bribing Ullr this December to help us rectify a problem experienced called 'lack of snow.' While the rest of North America rejoices in tidings of joy and deep storms, we have sat idle with our abnormally low snowpack of 5"-25", ever so patiently awaiting our turn.
Without our own weathermaster of Deity proportions (ie.. the Red Baron of multiple 4-8 foot storms), I have reached out to the KOMO forecasters for some, umm, assistance in bringing about a change to winter. (they are the closest we got to an RB or Larry "snowbanks"). Although the return comments may be construed as talking to a 10 year old (thanks BC-Flow for pointing that out!)- thought these comments were worthy of a post.
El Nino years push the jet stream further to the south across the southwest, which gives a ton of snow to the Califonia, Southwest and South/Central Rockies, while leaving us dry. But it looks a lot stormier and cooler around here once we get toward next weekend![]()
So, as evidence he may be no Red Baron, we'll take what we can get here in the Cascades during an El Nino winter.
I've been skiing once -- it was quite the adventure. Haven't been back since, but I sure love the mountain snow scene. And I really root for a good ski season becuase I know so many who love to ski. Plus it makes the area look so much betterI have some hope for getting at least some mountain snow for next week. Mid December is usually a good time to start waxing 'em up. Besides, were due for a good ski season! Scott Sistek, Weather Producer
Cooler air also moves in over the weekend. Highs will only be in the lower 40s Sunday afternoon. And if you are planning a weekend trip over the Cascade passes, be ready for plenty of snow.
Well, here's hoping. How about some nice thoughts for your NW/BC friends this weekend so we can get our lifts turning (or at least make stuff other than the volcanoes hikeable!) We'll return Ullr as soon we have enough snow.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Sincerely,
WA/BC Maggots
