well, depending on the time of year I would to go WP now, cuase they have alot of snow (more than everyone else)...

but if its later in the season I would go to A-basin for sure.....its my favorite place on my 5 mountain pass...

its nearly a Gape-Free zone....and it has alot of sick terrain for its size

In my experience: go ANYWHERE but Keystone! Unless you are a total park rat. You're not a... park rat... are you?

I would personally count out Breck, too. Haven't been to Loveland, or MJ-WP, but I did get to ride A-Basin last year, when the coverage was shit. From what I saw, it would be mad sweet with good snow (anti-jinx).

forget the resorts, and find someone to show you around berthoud (when are you coming out?).
    also, keystone is horrible,
    breck is just better.
    loveland and a-basin kick ass.

If we are talking about now, I wouldnt do a-basin. They only have 4 runs open and theyre all groomers.

Loveland has quite a bit open- but I have not been there.

Basically, I second the opinions that BC is your best bet.

Not a good idea, unless tranzformer has the backcountry knowledge and equipment.

just because i have 17 posts (now) doesn't mean that I haven't lurked here long enough to know what is going on and that i haven't spent enough time in CO to know the resorts as well.

He asked for resorts near Denver, which is where I have spent the majority of my skiing life--which I do recognize is miniscule in comparison to many of those with us here. However, I am not completely without knowledge, as I have been to these places 2 and 3 times (excepting A-Basin) and have had similar experiences at each respective place each time. Thus I feel entitled to provide my opinion about THOSE PLACES.

4 (near Denver): A-Basin, Vail, Keystone, Breck.

Oh, and for the record, Vail rocks (if you have $70 to burn on a pass, and it's not crowded...)

NOW the locals may continue their discourse. Thank you, and good day.

Go to berthoud pass without any avy equipment or training. On either side of the pass you'll see a nice smooth skin track leading up the hills. With your skis jury-rigged on your backpack, make sure you stomp huge holes in the nice smooth skintrack with your ski boots on. Go well above treeline to something nice and wind-loaded. If you can find a cornice, jump off of it. If you're still alive, head to the road and hitchhike back up to the top. Repeat.

I have been to Squaw 3 times and Northstar once, but haven't been to Kirkweed or Alpine Meadows and you don't see me spewing in Tahoe threads. You don't know of current conditions other than what you read on websites. So please stop the "I have been there"

    [whistle]

Okay, we've got an inappropriate giving of ski area advice on Max. JONGs shouldn't infer ski conditions from in front of a computer screen in the fucking swamps of Louisiana. There's a boatload of people from the Colorado front range on here, let them give the reccommendations, beyatch.

I hope CU has classes that keep you from being such a JONG, maybe you can sit next to phishshow and compare notes.

Berthoud is the shit! I think it has some of the best terrian available among the resorts that run along I-70 and it always has good snow since there are no lifts and all the hikes are easy.
