    Thumbs up

Won't be able to make it down for the boot packing this weekend, but definitely in the plans for the following week.

I've had a great time there. It's my kind of place. Cavalier? Definitely not.

In fact, most of the bitching about it comes from the fact that you have to ski so safely! No one has ever claimed it's the place for Everyman.

    And thank god for that.
    It's idomatic, beatch.

I think anyone who wanted to read my rant got a chance, I don't want anyone searching this thing and not going to Silverton just cause of me. The place rocks, go there and have one of the best ski days of your life!

Excuse me? You're keeping my money?

I had reservations January of '02. Shortly after they opened. In the time between I reserved my spot and I was supposed to enjoy untracked powder I had some nasty personal business that resulted in me cancelling (lost job, moved across country, didn't ski much that year) I ate the $$, understandably, because IT'S A NONREFUNDABLE RESERVATION!

No kidding. It's a small operation and they're trying to exist, not get rich. If you reserve a spot and fill stuff up, there are potentially other people that cannot make reservations for that day - why should they eat the lost revenue? That's why it's a reservation and it's listed as nonrefundable - the fact that they're willing to work with you is nice, I think.

No, there is no secretary to answer your calls on the spot... you have to wait to get calls returned, etc. Not a big deal to me. I had a fantastic time at Silverton - my whole group did. Snow was amazing, terrain was amazing, atmosphere was perfect, and the people were all great... I think they've created something truly special, and I can't wait to go again!

I was there for a few days last week, camping out in the parking lot, while they were getting hammered. Def. over the head pow in spots, but everything was ripping. Lots of routefinding going on.

    silverton rocks

Skiing silverton last winter was one of the best ski experiences I've ever had. The snow was great with much untracked pow, the terrain is steep, and the guides are knowledgeable, skilled, careful, and love to rip it up as much as the clients. My only suggestion is that you put together your own group of rippers so you don't get stuck with a weak skier in your group. Aaron and Jen are awesome and I encourage everyone to support their efforts. Silverton is a very special and beautiful place with a unique vibe--I'll be back.

I had a great time at silverton

Thought their safety and avalanche awareness was top notch, especially compared to some of the cat operations I've been on.

And it didn't hurt that we hit it after 3 feet of fresh....

    IT AIN'T DEER VALLEY

way too spray it AG, truly they were nice to change the date but the stupid chick who wanted you to thank her was obnoxious.

The reservation is there for a reason and there are truly trying to exist. They'll have a tough time getting rich.

Heli-skiing in AK can be worse as far as the reservations go and a full day of 8-15 runs will cost you a fortune if you miss the heli. One of the riders in our group ventured off into an unlandable zone that forced him to pay for his empty seat in the heli for three rides. That's $80-$125 USD per ride. not cheap.

Some bros. and I are going to try and land a February trip there so thanks for the story. we'll definetly plan our trip to be fulfilled.

    Hope your GF is better

well said. additionally, they disclose the fact that your reservation is non-refundable. If a road is open, no matter what direction you are coming from you are supposed to show up or lose your money.

    pretty simple.

Who's going down to bootpack this weekend? I'm 75% sure as of right now, that I'll be down there.

For those of you miscreants going to Silverton while I'm stuck here in the snowless PNW hosting my parents, please pelt Mike Barton (one of the guides) with snowballs.

It's going to be some kickass skiing there. Rip it up.
