Word on the street there was 24” of light Colorado goodness draped among the slopes of Berthoud from the past 24 hours. We haven’t seen the sun since early morning Tuesday and we’ve been getting hit with storm after storm since. Saturday night snow valves were let loose and the sky dumped big time. Crested Butte reported 37” in 24 hours, Buff pass got hammered with just over 3 feet in less than a day, and the Berthoud effect was going on with 2 feet of fresh.
First few turns of the morning:

Spent a little time working a line on the west side that had deep pillows of powder for landings. Took some work to get into the line, but we had a lot of fun with it once we got in there.
The line:

It’s been too long since Berthoud got hit like this over the course of several days. Even with a packed parking lot there was over the head blower to be found on some of the more popular runs. It was hard to keep up with previous tracks as they were filling in just as quickly as the hike up. Lines that don’t normally get skied until January were going down today with super deep landings. Today was one of those days where you forget about time and worries and focus on keeping your head above the snow and making as many laps as possible through the great deep white.
Love the sting to the face:

We stuck to lower angle slopes today. We found out right away that the new snow wasn’t bonding at all with the old stuff. Lot’s of sluffing and a couple of small fractures on some steeper aspects kept us at bay for most of the day. It will be great once all of this settles, but for now be careful out there. Lot’s of instability and we noticed many tracks heading into 1-2 foot crown releases on steep aspects.
Towards the end of the day the sun opened up the sky for a couple of minutes:
