I got Friday's nugs show with Billy. Billy was great. Loved to see him play with the Dead as well.
Show was soooooo slooooowwwwwww though. And Bobby, love ya man, but you're done. Let someone else sing. Anyone else.

Yeah, he is old, but I'm just enjoying the fact he's still living and playing. He won't be forever. And I did specify pick last night for the Trey opener and the unknown colab that was coming. I'm glad I went. Mayer has really become a lot better from when I first saw him years ago also, so that was good. Like always, a live show is so much better than a vid. ...and the chocolate mushrooms were tasty and fun.

Funny, some young kids in front of us decked out with all their tgr gear. I almost asked if they had change for a nickel.

My neighbor said the sound on Friday was terrible. Which tracks because I can usually hear park concerts from my house but Friday was nothing. Saturday and Sunday the sound was more typical volume for the park.

Hope you enjoyed. Seemed like it was just a giant money grab to me. Apparently John Mayer is now majority owner in the dead. Not sure if that’s been discussed but seems weird

    RE: earlier post about Cracker/CVB:

David Lowry is the only member of CVB who is in Cracker.
He is the frontman/lead singer of both outfits.

Yeah, when the tickets launched my wife was put off by the costs and said it feels like a money grab. It was a helluva production to put on, so idk...they didn't lose money ? Then we had a UVM friend flying out from back east to crash at our other UVM friend's house in the city, so it was old OG Phish fans coming together. Free place to crash and good old friends. Definitely worth it for us. And again, Trey was a biggest draw for me, but in the end I was really stoked to see Bobby and Mickey.

Don't know how much of Cracker was former CVB, but David Lowery was/is the front man for both.

Re: production costs for dead. They saved a ton because they piggybacked off the infrastructure already getting set up for OutsideLands this coming weekend. Almost if not everything was already being out in place. It wasn’t free to them to use , but I assume they got a very good deal since from the other events organizers. I’d say they certainly made some good money

There have been so many complaints about the $600 ticket costs. People spend that on shoes. I have no problem paying for experiences. The first set of Friday was a snore, the second set picked up. I think its planned you have to build for a 3 day event. The sound was perfect, they had Bobby's guitar turned way down. Hes def passed his prime but he brings that nostalgic feeling. Mayer is a fecking technician, hes incredible.

Its a corporation and they are in it to make money. Among other things. It still works I think. Saturday was the best night for me, that Morning Dew was ridiculous. "The best of the post-Garcia era" I read somewhere and it seems plausible. And Jack Straw was just off the hook and Bertha was fire too.

The corporatism is pretty evident though. The number of bars was insane, but filling a water bottle was a challenge. But hey the massive fleet of porta-potties was great too and that shit costs money, so...

The amount people spend to see these shows blows me away. Someday the staying power of the GD cover bands will be studied by anthropologists. I just don't get it, but hey, glad you people are into something, haha.

Tophouse. Great band out of MT/Nashville. Steamboat tomorrow night, then Folk Fest in Lyons. See them if they are in your area.

We saw The Aussie Pink Floyd band and their Wish You Were Here 50yr anniversary tribute. They put on an entertaining show with some great visual entertainment to go along with the music. Huge pink Kangaroo was pretty awesome (wish I could post pics). haha. I'd say it is worth the time to go see em on their NA tour if you are a Floyd fan. https://www.aussiefloyd.com/tour-dates

Just saw Tedeshi Trucks Band at Kettlehouse Amphitheater outside of Missoula.

Band played for 3 hours, tight as always, perhaps a little hung over from 2 recent shows at Red Rocks.

Not sure why the crowd sucked, but they did. Obnoxious AF, boomers!

Some miserable boomers at the Pink Floyd show too. I felt like everyone was from Boulder. Spme people just like to chat the whole time at a concert? One guy kept bitching about the guy standing 20' in front of him. "Down In Front" every five minutes for the first half of the show till I told him to STFU. It was kinda funny. There was only a few people standing up on the lawn and it really bothered people. Boomers....

I cannot stand when people are talking the whole show. Of course having a brief conversation randomly is completely normal at a social event, but the kooks who talk (and generally yell) the whole time need to be told to stfu. What the hell did they pay for? ...Go to a bar.

For some reason I attract those fuckers. My wife laughs at me because it drives me fucking ballistic after a while and it happens around me all the fucking time. Shut the fuck up. I'm not here to listen to you.

Me too, I think it is just my ADHD or some kind of brain thing that doesn't allow me to discern sound and pay attention to one thing if other things are going on.
So this was extra interesting, because they were playing the entire album because it was the 50th anniversary. Dude behind me, every song, had like some kind of comentary like "Oooh this is a good one!" "I like this one" then proceeded to talk about it. Its like, "Yeah dude, everyone know it is a good song dipshit, that's why we are here, now shut the fuck up!". He also explained to all of his friends that they need to drink more water because of the altitude, like 5 times.
I guess it is also hard for me because it was a date night with the wifey, meaning we brought a blanket and chairs to a concert and stayed in one place, not my normal thing. I usually walk around and move around and stuff. Whatever, it was still a great show.

I have come to the conclusion that drugs and alcohol make folks extra loquacious at concerts.
To wit, I hit up this all ages alcohol free spot in Reno quite frequently and never have had problems with people talking or taking lots of photos and video. Kind of a trip considering the average age of attendees at this venue is high school-to-college, so basically folks who have never lived without a cellphone and have grown up on social media. Crazy how they are more into the music and the moment than folks my age who should know better, yet fell the need to talk and shoot crappy video for a whole set…

But to my point about the alcohol and drugs causing folks to yammer at shows, I went to see this local West Shore Tahoma band Vice Grip this past Monday. During their first set some random dude came up to me and started talking to me about my t-shirt, which he thought was a vintage OP shirt. He went on and on about how he grew up across from the factory so he always rocked OP shirts and shorts. Then he segued into how he also grew up near the Vans custom shop and only rocked custom shoes. After several minutes he finally said “Dude, I am so high and drunk right now. I mean really high and drunk. Sorry for talking to you and being annoying while you weee trying to watch the show.” Then he wandered off to bother somebody else.

    Caught 3 shows this week:

    1. VICE GRIP Monday 8/11/25 @ River Ranch, Alpine Meadows, Tahoe
These cats are a West Shore Sierra dirt funk band who dish out original gems about bear attacks, growing weed in the woods, and evading CHP on high speed chases.
Here’s a slice of what they are like:

    2. FEMI KUTI and POSITIVE FORCE Wednesday 8/13/25 @ Crystal Bay Club, NV
I have been wanting to see Femi for more than a decade and the stars finally aligned.
What a blast of Afro Jazz Funk positivity.
Sadly, the venue was only a dismal 1/3 full, but Femi and crew delivered a high energy set nonetheless. What a pro.
Go see them if you ever get the chance.

    3. HAPPY ACCIDENT + CLOWNCLUBVIP
Thursday 8/14/25 @ Holland Project, Reno
This is the all-ages venue I spoke about in an earlier post.
CLOWNCLUBVIP was some young kid playing homemade EDM joints. His beats were pretty good and he had most of the crowd dancing and bugging out.
Headliners Happy Accident are an Lo-fi avante garde puppeteer duo from Oregon.
Their 45-minute show, from my perspective, was a critique of short-attention span social media and the addictive nature of consumerism. https://rustbucketproductions.com/happy-accident

Damien and Stephen played locally the other night at our incredible venue that we can walk to. Good to see them together playing Bob tunes. Stephen is as close as it gets to hearing Bob live.
Only criticism is not bringing the bass and guitar players more forward on the stage. Maybe it's their choice, idk.
