I need to go to Utah.
Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?
So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....
Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Just got a GA Standing ticket for Wet Leg @ The Fox in Oakland, CA on 9/30...
Leo Kottke tomorrow in Bend. I’ve seen him live a few times; he puts on a great show.
Was at the Levitate Festival in MA yesterday for a few hours, saw Mihali (ex-Twiddle guitarist and his band), Ripe, and Dogs In a Pile. I liked Mihali the most but Dogs in a pile are some high-level musicians and I dug them a lot too. Ripe kinda left me cold.
^^haven’t seen the dogs yet but they’re on a ride, them and Eggy are making it happen in the jammy scene

Looking for Sturgill Tix in reserved at red rocks for Wed 17th. We have GA tix for 16th
Sometimes they kinda play too many notes pretty much just because they can but when they get in a groove they stomp it.

I went to my first Dinosaur Jr. show last night in their homelands, first night of summer tour in South Deerfield. Loud and clean, live shows are all about the drums, Murph is sick live. If they come around, go! They encored with Just like Heaven by The Cure, fun stuff.

Saw Rhiannon Giddens in Boulder (Chautauqua Auditorium) last night.
Great seats, 3rd row, and she put on amazing show. She's just phenomenal, incredible voice, virtuoso playing (fiddle and banjo), incredible educational content for a concert, and she's gorgeous. I love her, on my laminated list for sure.

Saw the North Mississippi All-Stars a couple nights ago, Luther and the fellas were having fun, it was a good show.
Saw Anders Osborne a couple nights before that, it was just Anders and a sax player who was good but whose name I forget. It was fine, but a little low-energy, coulda used some drums. Or something. Not my favorite Anders show but still a good show.
Had a pretty solid sonic weekend…
Made the 3+ hour trek down from the mountains to Petaluma on Saturday to see Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven as part of The Petaluma Music Festival.
Both bands sounded musically tight, but weren’t much for audience engagement (i.e. no banter).
Cracker had this blazing fiddle player who ripped the strings and was the most jubilant member of the band.
CVB, who I think I hadn’t seen since my college days, played their debut album Telephone Free Landslide Victory in it’s entirety plus some other tunes.
For not having listened to them in ages, I was surprised to remember lyrics and sing along to everything.
It was a cool nostalgia trip soundtrack experience.
I drove back to the mountains on Sunday and at the last minute rallied to Reno to see Jenny Don’t and The Spurs.
On the drive down around 8:45 (it was a posted 9pm show) my truck was pelted by a massive summer thunderstorm which blanketed all of west Reno. Surprisingly, midtown, where the gig was happening, was crisp and clear.
While not as blazing as when I first saw them last year, they still put on a solid show, especially considering it was Sunday and there were only about 45 people in the audience. But the bulk of those 45 were dancing and engaged in the music. So much so that when the band announced they were done after an hour, people started yelling that Reno had no closing time. The band ended up plugging their gear back in and played another 20-minutes, mostly doing covers of a venerable Portland punk outfit called Dead Moon.
Ultimately, I was glad I went and will go see them anytime they swing through the area (Jenny said at one point in the show that they were on a schedule to hit Reno once every 6 months…so I am expecting them come January 2026).
I love CVB.
