    jong binding mount question

    hi all,
just picked up some used solly sth16s for a good price. i'm thinking about attempting my first binding mount (measure 10x drill once) but i have a question about screw length that i couldn't find easily by searching the forums. i have ~9mm of screw-ski contact on the toe pieces, but only ~6mm screw-ski contact for the back screws. are the rear screws generally shorter for these binders, or should i just give up and take the mount job to a local shop? i'd rather bruise my ego than my new skis.

The 9mm front screws are the "Backseat" option screws. They allow you to tailgun with less chance of pullout. Hope this is helpful or go to the shop.

Take them to a shop and make sure that you tell them about the "odd length" screws. They will mount them straight and replace the screws with the correct length ones... so you don't wreck your skis and/or body.
All of your binding screws should be about 8mm in depth btw.

I'm far from an expert, but on every mount I've done, all the screws sank to about the same depth (like DCNBs said, about 8mm). If your rear screws seem short, I'd go pick up some longer ones from a shop.

^^^ I just got a new pair of STH14s but I mount them with Quiver Killer inserts so have no use for the original binding screws. Pretty sure I remember them all being different lengths and I think I even saved them somewhere. If you are having trouble finding them shoot me a PM and I'll send you mine.

Yeah, they use very odd sized screws. Both in length and head type/size. If you have any original Solly screws, keep them!
Salomon also still forces you to use three different types of screwdrivers (and a shim) in order to adjust their bindings. WTF?

Bah, as long as you have five threads exposed on each screw you will be fine. Giver'

go to your shop and bring the bindings. Have them sell you the correct length screws. Then go home and mount them up yourself! [ame="http://tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153971"]Its not that hard[/ame]
