best spring BC ski

looking for a ski thats going to be light enough to throw on my back and hike for turns. Its going to be used at places like Tucks/G of S, in the Dacks, Berkshires, and at some of the resorts who have closed for the year. Basicly I'm looking for a pair of performance rock skis . So its got to be light while also being solid enough to not feel like a noodle. Its got to be fat enough to handle mashed potatos but have enough edgehold to ski frozen granular and corn snow. I'm thinking its probably going to be mounted as a tele setup and I'm going to run it somewhere between 170-180 in length depending on the ski. The couple of skis I'm considering are

Ideally I'd love to have the cash to throw out for something like a DB surreal or R since they're fat and light, but I'm not sure I want to subject something so beautiful to the kind of snow and mud that I know I'll be skiing on the East Coast at the end of the year. I'm really leaning towards the Snow Wolf but I haven't heard anything about them other then they're a wider Norbert Joos.

I've got a pair of '02-'03 (I think-greenish w/orange tips) intuitiv bigs w/freerides that I like. With freerides on them they're pretty light-hold an edge if its still firm-good float-bust through crud.Mine are 188s-80 under foot. You could probably find some cheap.

try to find some used voile mtn surfs... those are sweet spring skis!

Regarding the surfs aren't they kinda flimsy? I'm not abusive to my gear but I just think my 5'10" 235# body might snap them like toothpicks. They're ridiculously light however

as another idea what about a pair of shorter fat skis. I've got a pair of 165 explosives which on might be just about the same weight as the G3's i'm skiing now as a spring ski. I thought I read a thread eons ago about some maggots using 165 Ex's as spring chuting skis

I would think a 173 V-Ex would be better suited to your height and weight, a 165 would prolly feel like a pair of snowlerblades. I think a shorter pair of skis would be your best bet though, look for something kinda fat, stiff and in the 170-177cm range.
