    I flex my math muscles

I just derived the least squares solution for the pseudo-inverse for any first order system and proved that it is always a global minimum because the second derivative is always positive unless dealing with imaginary numbers.

I would high five another nerd but there is a good chance we would miss and end up hitting each other in the head or breaking each others glasses or something.

I will soon be walking around campus munching on a mars bar wearing the same clothes that I have been wearing for the last 2 days, sporting the wildman academic hair and working on decreasing the minimal social adeptness (yes this is actually a word just like ignoreable is for Lagragian math) that I have. WHat a good start, I hang out on the internet already.

I'm now picturing a little math geek high-fiving Oarhead in the testicles.

That was roughly my concern and with oarhead the other nerd doesn't even have to be that little.

My brain is like that lump of charcoal that has been sitting under the element of the stove for far too long and everytiime you turn on the cooker it somehow gets carbonized that much more. I feel like this now -> but in a negative way

On the menu tonight was Tresca and Von mises Failure Criteria, Coriolis derivations (now I know why we don't fly off into space), how accuracy can be higher than spatial resolution for mathematical systems and a bunch of other miscellanious crap.

At least I can vent in this place and then laugh as seldon tries to get advice about selling boots, get shut down and then take it out on the newbie instead of cleaning his room like he promised his mom. This is a good place.

I'm glad I can provide someone with some entertainment, however unwittingly (and witlessly) I may be doing so.

Haha I wasn't sure if you would see this.
The entertainment value of this place certainly helps me keep my sanity. At least you take it in good grace.

    Oarhead,

I'll save you a lot of work next time.

    The answer is always 42.

Thanks stu, I'll try that one out on the exam panel and see how it goes. If they ask me where I found this out I will jsut say I read it on the internet so it must be true.

Tonight was the last heavy study night for my exam which is next tuesday morning. Fuck.
It is funny, at this point in time I just don't give a shit. I really don't give a shit, I just want it to be over.

Tonight was some beauty error propogation calculations in imaging systems and math reconstruction, moments and shear in bending, thin walled pressure vessels, Some more photogrammetry (this is really cool shit that converts multiple 2D images into a 3D model (mathematically that is) - but is uncool because of the fantastic math involved).

I gotta give a good shout out to the ex since she has been so good with the booty calls for de-stressing. Top notch gal.

I am sure you are all sighing in relief after waiting anxiously and can now go to bed or continue with your lives now that I have given my weekly math update.

Do you know much about Gram-Schmidt orthogonalisation and Euler angles?

Sadly, my query is half serious.
Linear algebra is a new beast I wrestle with daily since starting this PhD

Euler angles I know quite well since I need them for 3D rigid body rotations in space but the Gram-Schmidt orthonormalization isn't rigning any bells. If you need a reference on Euler angles I am pretty sure I have a good paper knocking about somewhere in my hovel of an office.

Holeeee shit. My candidacy is in 30 minutes. I am dropping cinder blocks into my pants. I can't wait for it to be over. My brain is a supersaturated solution of engineering stuff, it is currently fighting a battle against simpson quotes and movie trivia. It is losing but I jsut need it to hold out for another 2.5 hours.
