South aspects up high skied well this morning with the little refreshment we had last night. Some wind and a few clouds kept sunny aspects from getting baked right away.

    Hey,

Previous Salt Lake City resident (current living in Switzerland) coming to SLC tomorrow for 2 weeks. Already contacted one mag here about hooking up. If anyone else is willing to share some turns please shoot me a PM. I splitboard and have also become interested in those more comitting lines that require some mountaineering as well.

Temps stayed cool above 9,000ft today. Lots of pockets ripping out on east and west aspects, some big, some small. Most 6-12" deep, not enough for burial, but enough to take you for a ride.

Mark H got this west facing ramp to rip out with a ski cut.

Nohow pulled out a small pocket skinning on a NE aspect.

    Due north had no activity.

Snow was still fun at 2pm on north/high aspects.

I guess this one came down sometime recently. Massive, to the ground.

Ya, the whippets are in plain sight.

The beater-hatchet must be strapped to his pack somewheres, casting that shadow behind him...

It looks like the beater-hatchet has a feather on it? ..I'm sure it's only a ceremonial beater-hatchet, and not intended for actual beatering or hatcheting.

Nothing ceremonial about it, it's straight up for mauling heli guides and beaters on the High-T.

Thinking of taking a few visitors out winter camping tomorrow night.
Is overnight parking allowed at Spruces?
    If not, any ideas?

A very rare line, Upwop Peak NE face.. Sketchy entrance, super steep, and rarely filled in. Sloughed heavy, very very fun run.

I know, this is my 2nd request for touring partners in the wasatch, but anyways:

Anyone going out tomorrow or anytime this week for that matter? I just arrived in Salt Lake City for 2 weeks (previous 9 year resident of SLC) from Switzerland (from the worst winter they've had in 60 years) and would love to get back into some Utah snow. I only entered the touring game in europe, so I am looking for touring partners here in Utah. I'm free to go out pretty much everyday this next week. This is my second year touring (first on a splitboard), but I have been riding for 11 years now and have done some pretty big lines this year in europe (cosmique couloir in Chamonix and just last weekend the eiger west face), so I am down for anything from just mellow powder to more committing lines. If anyone is willing to let me come along with them just send me an email. Orash111@yahoo.com

I'd be more than happy to return the favor if any of you ever decide to come for a trip to europe.

    He likes dark, wet places.

I tried talking him and Mark into a new line with equal Quirk Value, but they were drawn to the gash.

LOL! I just wanted a rebate on that thing cause it was solid ice the last time I did it. This time it had a weird spur which again made the cool part of the chute unskiable. Nevertheless it was 5 star side stepping in a dark trench. Then the remainder of the chute avalanched before I could get it. Just another classic chute skiing experience

Lots of very deep graupel pooling up to 1+ft deep on south aspects this morning. Then maybe 4-6" of mixed graupel/snow at mid elevations.

Pretty heavy greenhouse effect around 11am.

East aspects had about 4-6" of new snow mixed with graupel.

West aspects, for whatever reason, had much deeper snow/graupel that was pretty enjoyable.

    Fun little side couloir.

Started snowing again on the exit around noon. Wonder what conditions will be like if we get wind + 1-2ft of snow?

I was wondering that, too.. It'll prolly be at least in the 'tits' category though, eh? Today was just what I needed, soothed the soul so well after a involuntary two-week hiatus. You can thank Orash, for sending those bursts of sun through the canopy

Mid elevation BCC this morning was amazing graupel skiing with free refills. Super fast hero snow in an empty canyon.

Tomorrow is going to be one to remember if the sun comes out.

    They have 50 mph gusts...avys.

They are not worried about the savy skiers, it's the other boneheads that they don't want to go looking for or have to dig out. I don't blame them.
