UDOT is planning on doing explosive work in Stairs Gulch on 3/9/11 @ 0800. Please stay clear of Stairs Gulch, Bonkers and Broads Fork until after 0830. Expect Highway 190 (BCC) to be closed in the lower canyon from 0800 to 0815 tomorrow.
Thanks, -B.
Small slab released during the storm last night. East facing, 8600ft.
Didn't take much to get snow moving fast.
The sluffs stayed narrow.
But ran further than expected.
Erasing most of the tracks on every run.

LCC was good on Sunday
Ein Berg ohne Absturzgefahr ist nur noch Attrappe. (Reinhold Messner)
Scotty's was prime this afternoon. Boot deep cold pow. I got a pretty good soft slab to go at the very top. About 60ft wide and 12-16" deep running on the new snow interface. It ran a couple hundred feet. I thought it would go based on obs from the way up so I did a quick ski cut and there it went.
Big props to the solo guy who broke trail to the upper bench, trailbreaking the final 700 vert to the peak was brutal. It took me less than 1 hour to get to 9100 ft and another 1.5 hours to get to 9800 ft.
You're very welcome. Actually it was the combined effort of Zach and I. Zach stopped a few hundred feet before me for photoslutting purposes.
I was pretty surprised we got first tracks down Scotty's at 2:30. I thought any minute we would be blown away by 60,000 skiers charging out of Snowbird.
Conditions were tolerable
And from last week......
Finally hit the tight north facing chute in Bell that everyone gawks at on their way to LCC.
It's a beauty!
Too bad we let that bitch Gnarwhale side slip down the whole thing and remove all the powderJust glad you made it to work on time dewd

Conditions were certainly tolerable. As others have reported some new snow surface instabilities. Moves quickly once it's moving.

^Love that picture. Very cool.
Keep it unclipped
Today myself and another skier from a party of 4 I met at the top of no name triggered 2 soft slabs. I skied down the East facing trees above scotties and released a 15' wide 16" deep soft slab that ran down into the flats behind me. I didn't notice triggering it I just saw it after I got into the flats and looked back up at the the ridge for the rest of the group to come down. The second skier ski cut the slope and triggered a 60' wide 16" deep slab that broke around him and carried him a little ways into some trees. He did a good job digging into the bed surface and preventing injuries from going into the trees with speed. He did not get buried and ended up being ok. After that we skied lower angle trees eventually merging into scotty's to the bottom. I forgot my camera unfortunately so no pics, but I might head up there tomorrow and get some pics. Just wanted to pass that along. On a side note, turning conditions on N aspects up high is still excellent despite the greenhousing today. We made our descent around 2:40 this afternoon.
Here's the video from this morning; http://www.vimeo.com/20858343
I titled it Main Days but I think it was Upper Days (NE shot), either way it was pretty nice. No instabilities, a coupla point releases from yesterday ran down the West faces.
Hey Lionelhutz or anyone else in the know-
I'm heading out for my annual SLC trip from 3-21 through 3-30. Any chance for cooler weather and snow for those dates? I've been checking the usual weather spots and so far it's looking kind of bleak. I'm still pretty stoked though!
bad timing this year friend, i'm in the know and i know all the resorts will be shut down for the year by next weekend. its going to hit 100 in the mountains tomorrow, i blame global warming and glenn beck. either plan on rafting the mighty jordan river or reschedule your trip for colorado.
cheers,
those in the know
Ahh yes. Hilarity ensues. I will schralp all your lines...much like the hated Wasatch Powder Turds. You will share your wonderful powder and you will like it!
For real though, will be staying at a buddy's place in SLC. Can't wait to get after it!

The right side up snow from last night skied fast & fun today. North aspects below 8k were manked up by mid afternoon.

^^^ out of control ^^^
As you will notice in this video, http://www.facebook.com/video/video....84650&comments , my feet never leave the ground, displaying full control at all times
All in all, today was another good day (minus the highway of headlamps goin up Argenta at 6 sharp this morning). The goods remained good though.

The damn dawn patrolers tracked up argenta and I had to go all the way up to Kessler
and ski somethin good whhhaahhhhpulled up as you where leavin.
east facin skied a bit better I thought as west had a stouter crust under new snow.
Other than managable sluffing no real instabilities noted. Nice little refresher hope the positive storm cycle pattern continues.

that dawn patrol movie is some funny shit.
yeah dibs!!!! w/ all the rad terrain off kessler i thought it was comical how much traffic argenta gets but how little traffic all the good lines see. at least the lemmings are good for putting in the track early. rock on!!!!
yesterday off claytons then back to 10420 for a long sweet ride halfway to solitude
