Avy classes in/near So Cal area?

    Hi there,

I've done some poking around online to find an Avy 1 course offered in or near Southern California, but only found one or two classes offered late season.

Anyone know of some offered, before January preferably, that's within reasonable driving distance?

I want to start BC skiing ASAP, but want to take this course first! (I know, I kinda live in the wrong place...)

    Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately, Dec. 28th I will be in Death Valley for an event already paid for.

However, I did some more searching and emailing, and it looks like there may be a course offered in early December in the So Cal area, and will be announced on the National Ski Patrol Southern California chapter page sometime in the near future (in case anyone else is interested)

Check out SP Parker's course in Bishop. http://www.sierramountaincenter.com/..._courses1.html

One thing to consider is where will you be doing most of your BC skiing. If in the Sierra, I would recommend a Sierra based course to learn that snow pack. If only in soCal, then the course you listed may be best. If both, consider the Sierra course as it will be more applicable to soCal then the other way around.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

Where do you usually ski? There will probably be some courses in Baldy around January/February. But I would probably take SP Parker's course if I were you.

I will be teaching a Level I Avy Course in early January here in Southern CA. The classroom sessions will be on Jan 4th and 6th in Claremont from 6-10pm and the field sessions will be on Jan 8 and 9th at either Mt. Baldy or Mt Waterman depending upon the snow conditions. PM me for more details and the cost.
