Sounds like someone who hasn't been there in what? 10 or 15 years?

The wife and I skied into 2011 last night from high up on the west side of the pass. It was pretty flippin' cold...negative 20 in the parking lot and even colder as we got up above the weather station. Our champagne was freezing and turned to slush and we had rime forming on our faces/hair, but the headlamp skiing was about boot-top deep. A great way to ring in the new year.

You'll probably see more on this a bit later with a bunch of other December stuff, but I thought it appropriate to post here.

Edit to say: That's right, it's Andre...really classy.

It was a good time. I hope you and the wife had a good celebration as well. I'll be up in your area tomorrow, so feel free to give me a ring if you want to go out and make some turns.

thanks for the report. how were the winds? snow in that pick looks pretty wind-affected. For 6-10" (which I'm not debating), looks like you're not sinking in much - so I'm guessing it's kind of wind-heavy?

Busy up there today? Many tracks in the old ski area stuff just from the top of the pass? Trying to figure out where to go tomorrow...

the winds were WILD in the morning, let up a bit in the afternoon. Yeah the pic doesn't really give it justice, just was an easy screenshot from my footage. But in the trees it was nice and fluffy (especially leeward north facing aspects), not as much up high.

not busy at all, my and my buddy were one of probably 10 cars to be in the lot all day (i.e. even the east facing slope next to the parking lot is still plenty fresh)

Anyone make it up there today. Thinking of heading up for a few laps in the morning is there's still some goodness to be found.

Past 3 days have been really nice and there is some more left to be had. I spent thursday and friday on HHA and the continental divide which was great but is probably pretty tracked out now unless your trying to get gnarly. Today i was in the current creek area and by the end of the day it had a few tracks but not many. Lots of the south facing slopes got a little heavy by the end of the day cause of the sun but in the trees and on north/east aspects the snow is still great, and there should be some more snow coming in tonight also. Early next week looks good.

Found some good snow in Current Creek yesterday. It snowed fairly hard the whole time we were out though the winds were picking up pretty well above treeline around lunchtime when we took off. I would imagine that the next couple of days will be pretty nice on leeward aspects below treeline. No pics cuz the light was so flat all day, but I can assure you that there were plenty pockets that one could easily milk for faceshots.

Video from this past weekend. Was really fun. Sorry for the shitty quality im still trying to figure out the best way to compress the video and make the quality better.

I also don't know how to embed videos so here is the url if your interested, the video is two runs, first a line off hollywood cliff and then skiers left X chute:

    [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_DO5E4f6LE"]YouTube - Berthoud Pass[/nomedia].

Im using a contour and if anyone has any hints as to the best system for making edits and compressing the video i would appreciate the help. Thanks!

I have no tips for your filming, but your skiing in those vids was sick. Nice work.

Put all the letters after the "=" sign in the youtube address in between "youtube" "/youtube" tags. Your letters are "q_DO5E4f6LE"

A little late to the party, but 110s area was nice Sunday afternoon. Little crusty underneath on the S facing upper 110s but much softer on the SE and E facing aspects off the nose.

Now I just gotta figure out how to make it look steeper - tilting the camera isn't an option when shooting down slope.

Dane what happened to your contour? Although in unlikely events on my first run at the beav yesterday I ducked under a tree and my gopro didn't follow...

Contour has a battery latch issue which makes it hard to upload or charge it.... So the GoPro is gone? Fuck man.....I hit that triple rock pillow line on Friday and took it like 40 feet to flat and my contour went for a ride. I didnt think there was a chance in hell i would find it but thank god it appeared after 20 minutes of shoveling out my bomb hole! haha

BigKuba I am planning on being up there tomorrow too. Solo at this point so would be down to meet up with anyone. Not sure if I want to leave before the I-70 traffic or late and after it dies down. But regardless will be up there, black mountain hardwear softshell pants and a black softshell jacket, Solomon Rockers/Dukes in a silver jet with a change for a nickel sticker on the pod. oh and hauntingly deep brown eyes
