Who has skied at Lodge Theory, VT?

I just read about this in the October issue of Powder. I think mags would be all over this.

There are definitely a few mags that have shared in the theory. I used to head up when it was still just the Burnt Mountain Lodge and access was 4x4 only and even then the last 1/2 mile was hike in or sled. Spent many a late night racing sleds through the woods! I was psyched to see OPK getting the props he deserves. Kev's a visionary.

I've been going up there for a few years now - lots to offer for most abilities. Big drops up top and mellower run outs off the edges of the property. What's cool is the winter park type atmosphere - ATV's with tracks, sleds, tow-ins, VAST access, kickers, rails, large Army vehicles... bring your gear, it's secluded and it's on..

Website is a little unclear and needs a more professional touch and better pics if they want to attract more folks with $$$ (maybe that's not the plan).

That said, I'm interested and have signed up as a member to get pricing info. Depending on price could be interesting and a helluva alot of fun with a the right large crowd. Perhaps an EC mini?

But honestly, skiing at Jay mid-week is pretty damn good and doubt we'll change our yearly trip (key being mid-week) but maybe a add some time at Theory?

Like the idea of working during the summer to earn winter pow. Cool vibe and could be lots of fun. Can we bring hookers and blow? Don't know until you try.

Hey mags - Ryan here from South America Snow Sessions. We just started a global action sports adventure arm called SASS Global Travel (sassglobal.com), and we'll be putting together trips for Lodge Theory this winter, and especially once you've gone, there is a pathway towards becoming a full member (which begets discounts...). We're still working on the details with Kevin but I'm super stoked about the whole deal - New England finally has a legit backcountry op! We've got a bit of the trip details already up here (http://sassglobal.com/v2/trips/snow_trips/vermont).

I anticipate getting completely flamed for the self-promotion post, but I figure you guys would like to know anyways... see you mags up there this winter!

As a lodge theory member, I can vouch for the sweet narl available. I've been working with OPK for years and have seen this idea turn into reality. Last year when the resort was riding a single trail, we were shredding private stash lines and ripping powder turns in our private terrain park. With more accommodations becoming available during the winter, and more work for powder members showing up every week, things are coming complete. And our near 400 inches a year, makes us the east coast's powder capital, beating out a lot of western resorts for snowfall. If you live on the east coast, you will need to call as soon as pricing and dates come available, we will book up fast and full.

I got a sniff of it and signed up. Got an auto generated response, but no follow-up. Hope they didn't reject me because of my lack of stoke.

    Tune in TGR

What up TGR! Had to create a new handle to cover the theory now that the cat is outta the bag... Thanks all for chiming in. Member signup/approval and such is a popular topic and frankly we should have been a touch more prepared. "one ski in front of the other..."

We recently updated the membership structure to reflect "Basic", "Single", "Crew", and "Partner/investor" levels. The Basic membership is the new level of member and is intended for folks who are interested in membership but have yet to physically get here and shake hands or connection of the like. The Basic Membership launches ASAP... in the meantime we have been contacting the pending members periodically w/ some updates. Check your spam folder if you have not received an email update. The basic membership will allow folks to stay in touch through email updates and have partial site access to plan a trip for one of our Open Houses or a scheduled visit/tour.

    Work4POWDER? Check it out here - http://lodgetheory.com/?action=work4powder

    Membership App - http://lodgetheory.com/?action=agent&view=new

We would have emailed back had you left your address on the form... our bad just as well - its oddly not a required field. Add one to the to-do list - see you soon - LT

Is there any access to sleds/quads with tracks/cat/etc? Or is it all BYOUH (bring your own uphill)?

Never been in winter. Been through Burnt Mtn many times in summer and as with many areas in VT it looks good for schuss, but not exceptional by VT standards. I wouldn't be surprised though if there turned out to be some real hidden gems. Elev. seems low though so... well whatever.

My real point of posting is that this whole "Lodge Theory" thing is confusing the hell out of me (which is not rare though so don't be alarmed Lodge owners). In particular I'm having a hard time understanding how this pricing works... Maybe you can help me understand.

As far as I can tell, one option offered allows me to spend my time in the summer cutting trees for your resort so I can hike up myself and ski it in the winter? It's hard to tell based on the website, but it sounds like you also might want me to give you some money too. Is that accurate?

i'd love to hear from some more mags. silence seems pointless as the story ran in powder.

do mags get bumped to the front of the list?

    Lodge Reality

Hidden gems are the name of the game in the northeast.

We offer niche lodge rental and tour experiences to members, their friends, and friends of friends, as well as through extremely select channels thus far. One ski in front of the other... or showshoe etc if you prefer single plankolian.

Admittedly it is a little challenging to comprehend. The gig is, we enjoy low-impact, remote backcountry lodging and ski powder.

So it's kind of like a ski house with a hill behind it on which you can grab a few skin laps on?

Hmmm... I feel like there's still something else though that I'm still missing. The name "Lodge Theory" makes it sound like it's got to be more complicated.

Why would I want to subscribe to the "lodge theory"? why not just backcountry ski on my own?

Sounds Nice, but as GP asked whats up with the prices? Is it a pay per trip, do you have to be a member and pay so much/do so much work per year to go, is it free? It sounds like a great idea, curious in the details. Like the whole b/c hut trip type of approach.....I think you've got a nice idea going.

i checked out your m.o. brother... i'd say do both.

not like everybody rides tele or nuthin but... nor hold any prejudice ... man Harvey is gonna kick my arse but LOL ... yeah - it is really that simple. High mountain remote lodging with shots galore. "Grab your Gear"... "Will Work 4 POWDER"... the mantra of the seekers.

I read that article and forgot it until I saw this.

Have scouted that terrain but never skied it.

just signed up - but WTF is up with the 9 character limit in the notes section??
    I gave you a 1235678 just cuz that's all I had.

desperately want to learn more. Jay is the only place I really love since being forced to move out East. But it gets skied out fast.
LT sounds like a wet dream and a cool place.

Agreed with opinion on Jay. But are you talking about lift served? I can understand that but do you tour? If you don't you are missing out. There are plenty of fresh turns to be had out east but yes they require a bit of work and a bit of looking around.

I haven't had a chance to make it out to any of the Lodge Theory property yet but can definitely vouch for Kevin as a hard worker and a great guy to ski with. He put a lot of time and effort into making the Ski The East Freeride Tour happen last year and if I'm not mistaken he's busy working on adding more venues as we speak! Good luck with the continued expansion of the Theory OPK. The new JPV site looks great, you should definitely get that trailer posted on here somewhere!!

I met OPK through DEVO a few years back and have stayed at the Burnt Mountain lodge a few times. Great people good vibes and always GREAT skiing when being led by OPK and introduced to his hidden stashes at Jay and the surronding areas. This theory has been a long time in the making and a task that most would shy away from due to the work involved putting it all together. Getting this far tells me the reality of OPK's dream is fast coming and here. Work hard... ski harder! Nice work guy's can't wait to pay a visit this winter.
