Dec. Travel Advice needed / possible hook-ups in SLC

So I have a conference in San Fran from Dec. 14-18 and have been thinking about trying to get some skiing in before coming back East for Christmas.

Any advice on where to head?
SLC seems like a good choice due to major airport and decent base so far this year, but maybe I am overlooking something more obvious?

If SLC, I'd prolly be looking for touring partners and a corner to sleep in (watch out Derek) - all in exchange for you-name-it.

what about tahoe ? youre right down the street from it in san fran, but if youre taking a chance for good conditions; you almost have to go with SLC. tahoe + colorado both take a back seat to being a sure thing to SLC when it comes to snow.

Yeah, a fair point. Reports from Tahoe these days aren't very encouraging though.

my 2 cents? wait until that week to decide between tahoe, mammy or slc - based on who is getting/projectedto get the goods. generally, the storms blow in from the pacific, blanket tahoe and mammy with the goods, roll east into ootah and 1-2 days later hit slc/lcc/bcc. if you are flexable, wait and then decide. trying to determine if tahoe vs slc will be better than the the other in 4 weeks time is not very accurate/wise.

tahoe is a 3-4 hour drive from sf. mammy 6 hours. slc is a 1 hour flight from sf.

this from the guy who wasted server space with a thread about how he preferred going to SoCal to ski because the mtns there are closer to a major airport.

colin - fire me a PM or give me a ring when the dates get closer. my special lady friend will be in town in that period, but I may be able to scrounge up some floor space and some time for touring/making turns.
