Have you, or anyone else here, seen the documentary “Cocksucker Blues”?

A friend in the film/video bus. gave me a copy years ago and never got around to watching it. It’s on a VHS and I no longer have a player... worth the effort?

Eh, yes and no. Cocksucker Blues is, um, interesting, as a sort of home video account of the soul-numbing dark side of rock'n'roll touring, that is, everything but the performing parts. You get the sense that the Stones and their entourage of drugged out hangers-on were bored out of their skulls, the drugs, sex, and other decadence (which the director wasn't hesitant about including; there's some shooting up etc shown, and at least one sex scene that goes beyond 'R' rating standards) only going so far to make it less boring.

It might be worth watching if your copy-of-copy-etc bootleg VHS is better quality than the (very poor) digital copy that I have, which is unlikely. Otherwise, don't go to too much trouble. A sampling of scenes from CB can be seen in the more recent Crossfire Hurricane, BTW, which is more recommended.

Wow, I'm surprised, mostly that it's been up for three years now. They worked pretty hard to keep that out of the public eye. I guess they're over it; at this point it's more colorful history than bad PR.

I just sampled some of it; it's been years since I watched it. Video quality is as poor as I remember my copy being. Again, it's worthwhile as a total antithesis to Hard Days Night, or any cool triumphant rockumentary that you've seen, but it's also a dull slog (and the shitty video doesn't help). For compleatists only. For a more fun account of the Stones' debauchery, read Keith's book Life.
