A buddy and I are flyin into Utah wednesday night. Staying at the best western in Sandy with a rental car.
I need to figure out where we should ski.
I've been to Utah 4 times and have always prefered the resorts in this order: Alta, Snowbasin, Solitude, Brighton, Powder Mountain, Snowbird.
Our skier levels are advanced. Ski mostly blacks and a double from time to time. First time out this season so maybe hold back a touch.
The few times I've been at snowbird were horrible conditions so I'm sure that plays a factor and I'm sure I'd like it if there was good snow.
Snowbasin and powder mtn is obviosly out of the question because of the low amt of snow.
Would love to hit Alta, but especially with holiday crowds and no lift yet, it's bound to be a zoo.
Maybe hit taht on thursday when everyone is having family time?
Friday and saturday look like they are going to be storm days (esp sat) so obviously want a place with some shealter. I ahven't been to brighton in perhaps 3 years but if I remember right the lifts in the middle of the mountain are pretty shealtered. millicent isn't and I know at least the top of great western isn't either, but i think it was lower down.
How is the main face/bowl and lookers right during storms at solitude? I can imagine the middle area is pretty whiteout cause no trees.
Could try snowbird again. If I remember right from 4 years ago they have some nicely shealtered stuff to the lookers right.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

get internet access in the hotel and ask how the crowds are. collins has chairs on it now and is load testing on the 25th from what i hear. they could be up as early as this weekend. snowbird is alwasy a fun place to ski with people, but does get crowded around t-day. i don't know about soli/brighton but i'm sure they have much less in the crowd department. i'd save powder mnt/snobasin for a day when there is pow on the ground and lots of people at other resorts. the northern guys can tell you how good snobasin is.
Yeah I'll have internet access in the hotel. I can imagine friday will be a zoo anywhere, but thursday can't be tooooo bad with all the family stuff people usually have to attend to...right?
Hmmm about Alta...One can only hope they'll get that going.
Brighton/solitude are looking like great options...
