agreed, Fez-- what I was getting to is that Fallujah wouldn't have even been an issue because it would have been carpet bombed months ago while the insurgents were still there.

I am glad that I have the "right" to own a firearm. I feel that there are enough legitimate uses of firearms for them to legal. On the other hand, I have a hard time buying in to NRA's line of thought and reasoning. Perhaps I have gauged the American people wrong, but I just can't imagine that most Americans who own guns do it so they can defend themselves against tyranny.

You're right. I think even the NRA winks when they say that, but if you live in Montana for a while (and even in 'The Republic of Texas') you will find some who do own firearms for just such a purpose. We shouldnt forget who carried out the second most destructive act of terrorism on American soil.

I think there are plenty of valid reasons to own a firearm if you should so choose. I'm sure we will see more anti-gun action on assault weapons after this event in Wisconsin for sure.

If you think about it, the "sniper" aspect of the gun used is far more dangerous than the "assault rifle style" of it. It fires small/medium caliber rifle rounds semi-automatically, but a 30-06 hunting rifle with a quality scope is probably much more dangerous in the right/wrong hands.

I don't. Matter of fact, I don't know ANY serious hunters that use a Yugoslavian or Chinese cheap-ass, bad-shooting rifle for deer hunting.

Again - referring to it as a "common hunting weapon" is just plain inaccurate.

One of my best friends back in Michigan used an SKS to deer hunt every year. Go out into the field sometime, you'll see all kinds of guns hunting.

Like it or not, it is our right to own guns.

I've never seen an SKS up here 'cause we have zillions of Lee-Enfield surplus rifles for hunting. But I did find a picture of the SKS, ahem, "assault rifle":

not much of a hunter, despite growing up in east tennessee in a family of dedicated hunters. I like hunting rabbits, doves and squirrels, where you can take it easy, walk with the dogs and shoot em easy, and have fun. Big game huntig has eluded me...too much down time...

this is an anomoly, and in no way calls for a ban on hunting. Given the number of guns taken into the woods in any deer season, I'd say the number of, well in this case hunter on hunter violence, pales in comparison to even the smallest town. Accidental shootings happen, but pretty rarely and still tiny in comparison to shootings in any city of size.

that said, I have a conceal and carry permit and have a 38 snub nose in the console of my truck at all times. Honestly, I don't think I could take a shot at another human being. But I know 2 people, one of them being my dad, where it came down to having a gun or seeing a lot of unasked for trouble.

Would I ever shoot someone for racial insults? Don't make me laugh. Live your life as you want, and hopefully don't ever associate with the bad folks. But can I control every person who crosses my path? Would I shoot someone who was threatening my family with bodily harm? That's why I have the gun.

the only time i ever pulled my gun was when i was being robbed at knife point. i told the man it was time of him to leave and he politly exused himself and appologised. it was a 44mag and quite large. the shock value is enough sometimes. if you do ever pull that gun you should be ready to pull the trigger and accept the consequences because if not, that gun is likely to kill you. it happens.

My friend's dad has a couple SKS's he bought from a guy in China, and he works for the Postal Service. This is no joke. AND, he is kinda high strung...

He said that he was told to get off the property, and as he started walking away, he turned back and saw Willers point a gun at him from about 100 feet away. He told investigators he immediately dropped to a crouch, and Willers shot at him, the bullet hitting the ground 30 to 40 feet behind Vang.

Vang said he removed the scope from his rifle and began firing, continuing to shoot as the group scattered.

Fine, he got shot at first. He had a right to shot the shooter but killing the others was outright evil! Shooting unarmed people in the back? That is just physco.

The shooter was wearing blaze orange and had a valid back tag. He wasn't out to hunt hunters. As a hunter in WI there are plenty on permanent tree stands on public land, which is illegal and the private property was bordered by public land. Even if Vang thought he was on public land and even if he received racist remarks from the land owners it gives him no right to shoot 8 people and one reports states he went up to a hunter and shot him in the back only to find that he was unarmed. Hell the entire party only had one gun between them. Vang should be locked up for the rest of his life and made to listen to Brittney Spears and M&M during his lockup.

I do think it's sad that the Hmong community has to come out and defend itself though. I don't care that he's a Hmong I care that he is a murderer no matter what race.
