Hey all- Figured I'd introduce myself here. Ex snowboarder with back injury looking to get into some mellow ski touring. I live at 10,700 across from Mt Quandary on Hoosier Pass in CO and having not been able to go out this season has been aggravating. I hope to gain some knowledge from this site and be able to get out next season.

Great forum everyone! I'm glad to have found it and finally have enough time to start contributing to the melee.

Like many of you, I've been skiing as long as I've been walking. Grew up in the midwest cutting my teeth on ice and frozen death cookies and have traveled out west as often as I could. About a year and a half ago, I was finally able to move Seattle and have been loving having the mountains so close. I've already taken so much great information from this site on everything from conditions to what skis to buy for the PNW. Now I'm hoping I can add to the stoke along the way!

I ski mainly at Crystal and Alpental, but have been getting into touring this year as well. If anyone is looking for a partner, give me a shout.

I've been lurking here for a while and finally decided to join. From Northern California currently living in the North Bay, and I spend most of my ski days in the Tahoe area at various resorts, although I like to get out to Colorado when I can. Grew up skiing and took about 10 years off after a (non-skiing) knee injury - just got back into it last year and I've been kicking myself for not getting back up the mountain sooner. Better late than never.

I'd figure I'd join up after browsing occasionally. I'm from the midwest, been skiing since I was 3. Went to college, and now I'm using my degree to run lifts at Vail and cut grass. I got into backcountry last winter and some ski mountaineering. Now I've amassed enough gear to do it seriously. Let's go skiing.

Located in Denver. Love to snowboard Summit/I70 resorts and take longer trips to SW Colorado. Just broke off with a tibia and fibula fracture shit storm, very depressing way to start spring.

Hey everyone. Signed up here a little while ago, but I figured now's a good opportunity to say hi. Looks like I'll be posting my skiing stuff here from now on. I'm looking forward to getting back on the snow and making turns with some new folks.

162 days until my season begins. Can't fucking wait.

What's up guys, Long time lurker first time poster. I'm on TruSnow and SBF and pretty active on those sites. Being from the midwest I've always wanted to moving west and ride mountains but I've been in school etc. Never joined up here because seems that's your guys' dig and I'm a little ignorant in that aspect. But now dream come true, I'm in Jackson, WY for the summer interning with TGR's web department and I thought now's as good a time as ever to drop in and say what's up. So... What's up?

Whats up everyone? Been lurking for a while so I figured I'd finally join up. I live in south eastern MA, ride BMX (mostly trails/dirt jumping), MTB (FR/DH/XC/whatever is fun), and snowboard. Been snowboarding since I was about 12 but this place has really gotten me excited on getting some good BC action next year...now I need to figure out a way to move farther north or out west to make it easier ha.

Hey everyone. I've been skiing 16 years, mostly in PA & NY but I try to head out west whenever the opportunity presents itself (hopefully doing a week or so at alta/bird this year). I've also been really bored at work lately, so I though it might be time to join.

    Hi,

Been lurking for a while and just started to get more into the forum for research into a trip to BC. Started off snowboarding and made the switch to skiing about 3 years ago. Mainly ski around the Canterbury club fields in NZ expanded into touring late last season and loving it.

Just saw this. I will always be a Newb, compared to guys with 1K plus postings. How do you get to 4k postings - prolific indeed.

Stoked on the site. Lived in UT and HI. Live in CA. Surfed and skied for 35 of my 41 years. Surfed around the world, but only have skied in CA and UT. Family is UT so I get up to Zion a lot. My age probably puts me more on the less agro EpicSki site, but the trip Eastern Sierra reports and SL/Utard skiing focus is the shit on TGR. Some of the ascent/climb thread pics are mind blowing and pucker producing.

Saw that there is a surf and fishing forum here. I try to do everything from offshore big game to 3 weight fly tackle when time, money, and luck line up, but it is taking a backseat to gravity sliding currently. The fishing site Bloody Decks is ok, but a lot of toolishness abounds. This one is pretty good: http://www.moldychum.com/ .

I have never found a good surf forum yet, but I haven't really looked. For information up to the minute it would be hard to compete with Surfline and most surfers aren't blogging IMHO.

Hi all, been surfing since I was fourteen, but the last eleven years have all been in kayaks after I got injured serving in the Army. I've just recently gotten into sitskiing too, and now wonder why the hell I didn't do it years ago!!! Really stoked to have another sport I can do sitting down :-)

Cheers dude! It sure is me, and it's one of my favourite photos for just that reason. When I started going out surfing in kayaks I got into all sorts of trouble 'cos I was used to surfing but had no idea how to paddle a kayak. I spent a lot of time swimming, which isn't much fun when your legs don't work right!!! But when I got the hang of it I started surfing like a surfer, not a yakker, and that got me acceptedback into the local lineups, though it was sad how many guys who used to surf with me on a board but would shun me 'cos I was in a 'yak.

When I went skiing for the first time the other week though I couldn't believe how many people just started talking to me, saying how cool it was that I was getting out on the slope and stuff, totally unlike surfing and I loved it. It was just like I was a part of the whole thing and I didn't need to prove anything 'cos they were happy I was just there (even the guy I crashed into said he wouldn't mind a go!!!). This skiing gig is definitely a keeper, can't wait 'til the 29th when I can get out again!!!

Skifishbum, thanks for the offer, but I don't even have a chair yet (though I'm working on it already!), plus I'm in the UK, but thanks very much for the offer :-)

There are a lot of dicks at ski resorts, but the percentage is significantly lower than you'll find in the lineup at any good break (along the west coast anyway). I've surfed some big waves - some I probably had no business dropping into, but the idea of going out like that in a kayak scares the shit out of me. Lame you didn't get more respect.

Thanks. Going out in kayak scares me sometimes, but it's all I've got and so it's go out in the kayak or don't go out. There are times though when I don't go out!!! For the most part people just won't talk to me, it's rare now that I get any active shit in the line up. I appreciate your props though, wish more people thought the same way you do.

    Thanks,

    Chris

I have currently lurked for 4 years. I considered joining for 3 years and procrastinated for 2 more, now look where I'm at a Jong. I have been in the ski and outdoor industry for awhile now building, designing, testing, breaking, fixing and now selling for a local ski manufacturer here in SLC. I am also a semi retired river guide of 10 years. Which basically means I now boat without wiping others asses. I spend 99% of my time in the backcountry. Im always up for a new ski partner (so if your in SLC hit me up) as long as you have your shit together when it comes to avy skills. I travel a lot as a sales rep so I ski in a lot of different places. I have been spending a lot of my last three years with a kite pulling me along great new way to get out there. Way out there. Cant wait to spout off my opinion on all sorts of useful and useless topics!

Making the all important intro post.

Lurked last year while stuck stationed in PA after an all exciting tour in Gulfport Mississippi (Probably the flattest [and fattest] state ever). Just moved to the Boulder, Colorado area and am ready to recoup for the past years of snowlessness.

Grew up snowboarding Mammoth Mountain in California (LOVE that place!). Going to grad school at CU Boulder for now and planning to get my boarding skills up this year with a season of mostly resort days (hopefully ~100 ) Plan to take avy level 1 this season and start to transition to the BC next season.

That's me, if you know about the area and are looking for someone to go with you, I'm down.
