Was up this morning for a bit. Managed a few backside laps, snow was wierd, but still fun to be out and about.

From seeing the new quad, i don't know how in the hell they are going to get it done in a week...looks like there is a lot to do still.

Only saw a few maggots, i was disappointed at the turn out.

If you could have been there and you weren't, shame on you.

I'm shamed. I'd rather not burn goodwill with the bossman to bomb groomers and ski kinda blah conditions. I'll probably be there for a bit tomorrow morning though, and then on the weekend, cause what else am I gonna do?

    Variable.

Firm, then soft, then crunchy, then punchy, then soft again.

Yep, that about sums it up.

Opening day in mediocre conditions has never meant much to me. I know there are so many killer days ahead, early season's never been my bag.
That said, if I were in UT, I be up there ripping around with you for sure AC! Glad you got some turns in.
Bummer about the lift though. You'd think there be some serious penalties to Doppelmayr for the delay...

that sums up most of the runs. sunset was good, moes had a nice light pow field, the castle was like backside, glory hole was nice on most aspects and catherines was the winner of the day. very light, untracked fluff. other than that, nothing was missed. friday and saturday should be better with some new snow. it'll help get rid of a few of the crusts.

Last Sunday at Sunset ended 11 days @ Alta, too bad the lifts are running.

The best conditions were in Supreme bowl. Sheltered N facing held nice recrystallized pow topped w/ surface hoar. Made for some good noisy turns. Catherines had nice snow, however it looked as if the lifts were already running. Satan's Fortress was a mixed bag, w/ N and W aspects offering the best snow. The W face of Sugarloaf was nice blown in snow down to the Castle traverse.

Let's hope the snow line drops soon, the northern powder circuit is already tracked out and WPG's season is only a few weeks away.

Thirds was surprisingly very good. PowHo and I got into it fairly early and found nice untracked stuff. I'm not going to say epic or sick in any way but it was still Alta and it was good. The traverse across the High-T was good and got better as it softened up (first time around the rock was a bit scary).

Best sighting today: Seeing Xover cruising on the groomers under Sugarloaf. Kinda blended in with the gapers, gave us all a good laugh on the lift. Come on up tomorrow X, I'll show you where you can ski powder at Alta, it's pretty cool. (I'll buy the first beer at GMD after the last bell as well, it's time for a GMD pizza too).

I heart that forecast, but where'd you see it? Weather reports here are for basically flurries and cold weather through the weekend and into early next week. Blah.

The link off the Alta website backs you up, however the NOAA zonal forecast looks much better.

was up from 11:45 til 3. What everybody else said about conditions. Backside were three of the best runs for sure. I agree with AC about the new lift. It looks like they got a ways to go .

you guys are all way to friggin' sad and spoiled; quit your whining
there was sick untouched, soft cream - top to bottom - if you even had a friggin clue where to ski on the mountain

I told you all on Monday to think like Seinfeld - you know psuedo Alta and you'd score - guess you all left your brains at home

Yes, there were some death traps out there, but there were definitely more high speed smoothies - just ask the friggin' gaper coming down sunspot that thought it would be cool to stop right in front of me as I was maching the high t - I went up hill to try and avoid him and was free and clear but then he decides to plant his uphill pole while stopped - wtf? - sent that sum-a-bitch flyin' he felt the full wrath of the pain train

    Castle was worthy
    Glo Hole didn't suck
    East Baldy held some luv
Hell even High Boy was good
But the real winner was **** cause people weren't dedicated enough to ride the transfer tow Seinfeld stylie - guess you'll just have to try and keep up tomorrow and find out

btw, first thang I see today as I'm heading up Sunnyside is some dude drop the big cliff at the top of thirds - he made a triple out of it then tumbled half way down thirds. I was like Ya, welcome back to Alta!! That whore next door can't hold a candle to my Alta. Feels good to be home!!!

Anyone else think that's fucked up? Dude, you were "free and clear?" But yet if he puts down a pole you hit him? Doesn't sound "free and clear" to me.

Man, I dunno what to make of that, since Sunspot is below high-t if you want to be picky about it.

Last time I checked, skiers below/in front of you have right of way.

And here I'm thinking the whole "pain train" thing is an inside joke. Guess not.

I almost became one with an older gentlemen today. Guess he didn't see my mad switch steeze blazing down the groomer when he decided to carve right at me. A kind yell and he notice my mad steeze and turned away.

Shit, I just about got ran down on the high T last year, while skiing with a 40 pound tripod and 50k videocamera, (and no poles) heading to the top of high rustler to get a shot we needed. That sucked. People need to chill out a bit up there, it was a spring corn day - no reason to rush anywhere...

    bobby hair,

to clarify for you so you don't think less of me; don't go out and purposefully try and hit peeps
like 13 said, high t is below sunspot so technically he has to yield to me, plus anybody with half an eyeball can see the high t and anyone crossing it while skiing sunspot
I even slowed slightly not knowing whether he was gonna ski through the high t, turn onto it or stop completely and decided if I go uphill should miss him altogether no matter what he does
he decided on the latter right in front of me
I yelled on your right, but he thought he needed to plant his pole 4' uphill of himself for balance cause he couldn't hockey stop without falling over
So, nothing left to do but suck it up and take the hit
I stopped, asked if he was ok, he looked a little surprised but was ok
    life goes on

btw, when I come to Sorrydude this year, I'll be looking for a slow gaper with a camera chest pack, slammin' busch lights to plow over - so watch your poles

edit: it was his pole that got sent flyin'; not him
