Seth Pistol vs. Bro model soft

    Solid reviews Wanted

So I am close to throwing down for a pair of pistols 179/189 or maybe the soft Bro model.

I'm concerned the 189 pistol and 188 Bro is going to be too long for the kind of skiing I do here in the east even though the 179 SP has a pretty short running length, I'm worried about getting hooked up in tighter trees with the longer models.

This ski wil be used mainly for trees and powder days. Definitely concerned about stiffness as well. I would want this ski to be able to have at least an adequate hold on hard snow. Makes me think Bro model over SP. The pistol is definitly stiffer than the 182 Scratch BC's I am on now, which are terrible on firm stuff.

So how does the Bro soft stack up against the Pistol? From what I can gather from the bro model threads is that the BMsoft is a medium flex and stiffer than the SP? Is this correct or even in the park?

What kind of sidecut and turn radius does the soft Bro have?

Damn just read Vet's Bro thread and the stiffie sounds really fun but just can't figure out if they would do well in EC trees?

BTW I'm a strong skier but small 5'8" and 145 lbs

    for what its worth..

the 04/05 189 seth pistol was my go-to ski for just about everything this year, including ec boilerplate. granted, i keep them really well tuned for ec stuff, but they have enough sidecut that you can just roll em on ice and theyre fine. i think the bro is probably a more versatile ski at the end of the day, and its definitely going to be a bit lighter. i had no problems in all manner of tree skiing on the SPs though.. then again, i was skiing 204 morrisons in the trees before these and enjoying it as well.. its all a question of preference... the SPs are a lot more forgiving than the morrisons if you get in the backseat, but you cant be in the backseat and expect to be having fun skiing in the trees anywhere..

certainly DONT get the older noodly seth pistols - if you're considering it for the EC, get the new model.

edit: im 6'7 and arouund 190-200 lbs

I've got problem with my 182 scratch BC's except for the firm snow factor. I guess I am leaning towards the BM for more versatility. But not being able to feel them out make me nervous. Also the length issue really doesn't bother me too much. 6 cm longer then the scratches is only about 2 3/8 in. I guess it might be down to BM regular stiff vs. soft?????

what's your boot sole length? I've got a softie coming in probably the first batch, and I'd be glad to let you try them out here in the EC if you're around 305mm.

all the Bro's (soft, stiff, xtra-stiff) have the same dimensions: 125-99-114 @ 188. I forget what the turn radius is off the top of myhead, and I'm a little drugged up right now so...

28.5, Ty. If you're wanting a comparison between SPs and Bros, Vinman, I can throw this out- Soft Bro: stiffer than last year's SP. Stiff Bro: Stiffer than this year's SP. Bro will hold edge out East. Like the trees, your weight and aggressiveness fall into the equation.

Boot sole 307 mm/ You going to be in N. VT anytime soon after you get the mounted? I'd travel as far South as Sugarbush or maybe K-mart to try those out.

Ty, Splat, thanks for the info. I'll be in touch. I'm giving the bro's some serious thought.

I'll try to do some more research on some of the other thread before I go asking a bunch more repetitive questions, or I'll just PM you.

    Thanks

I'll be at kmart a bunch, and might hit up the bush a bit too, as I know an IT guy there. Depends on when I get my bro's though. As soon as I get them mounted up and bust their cherry I'll let you know so we can set something up.

Vinman glad you asked this question. I too am seriously considering Bros, but wonder how theyed be out here. Id go with the soft or med flex but would need them to work in tight trees. I am about 5'9 175 and ski pretty aggressively, and 192'Moships are my "big" ski right now.
188 Intuitiv Bigs are my everyday ski.....how would the bro compare to the Big as far as turniness in tight spots

Since Tyrone has Intuitives, he would be best to answer that, having skied both.

Did a bit of research on turn radii

Bro Model 28.5 Is this an average or for one specific model? I'm guessing the different flexes would have slightly different radii. ie. softer thas shorter radius.....Splat/Ty any input here?
