Lets all throw down and open our own RESORT

This is a dream i have always had....

We could open up a place with like 300-400 acres of terrain. A members only place. 100% ungroomed. A place with it all, cliff drops, dank glades, and one cruiser for getting down the hill drunk.

It would have one ancient double chair going to the top. At the top we would have an old school style all wooden lodge, with a big raging fireplace and a bar. We could also have a stage where bands could play. Every full moon during the season we would be open 24 hours (when its clear skies) and have sick local bands playing at the lodge up top, nice beers at the bar and kegs of PBR at the bottom of the lift.

in this dream world location we would get about 10-20 fresh every night and the season would be 11 months out of the year, with one month for trail upkeep and lift maintinence....

it would be up to all members to volunteer in maintaining the runs during the one month off season....

    so whos got the loot?

I vote that you are NOT in charge of booking the bands. Phish has already done enough "last show ever"s.

Wow, a huge 400 acres - With all the guys on this board, we would set some sort of record for tracking out a ski resort.

What about a terrain park or at least one huge kicker?

How about a smoking room with a hookah (sp?)?

Well if you got a boatload of money just join this club - the only private ski and golf resort in the U.S. - http://www.theyellowstoneclub.com/ . Plus it advertises you can ski with warren miller. I know someone who's grandfather is a member. Since most members aren't real intense skiiers, you can get some sick lines that are untouched with no one to bother you. It's a nice dream but i don't wanna know how much it would cost...

    ...

ill be at silverton this year for sure...especially if the unguided thing happens...

the only reason i said 400 acres is cause its somewhat realistic and 400 acres means we should only have about 400-500 members...

Ok, Mr. upside down hippy band, we've got inappropriate use of the word 'dank.' I haven't heard that word since college and should only be used to describe luscious green chronic nugs, or my capilene after a long day touring.

10 yards, repeat first down, and gargle with your bong water.

    So you think.........

Gotta remember they employee a ton of mountain guides to take around these guests that need a tour. Also remember people spend only a few days or weeks there a year so the guides pretty much are able to freeski a lot. The lifties and anybody else that works there gets to ski a lot too.

    Skiing Mag Article
    Malfunction Junction
    By Chaco Mohler
"When you luck into owning Cali's hottest ski terrain, you can't let the neighbors get you down.
Back in 1986, Troy and Sue Caldwell were looking to buy a few acres of land to build a small guest lodge near Tahoe's Alpine Meadows resort. The land they wanted was owned by Southern Pacific Railways, but it turned out the county wouldn't let SP sell them just a few acres; they would have to take the entire 460-acre section. But the railroad execs liked the young couple and decided to cut them a deal: $350,000 ($526,000 today), or $760 an acre. And so, at 30-something, the Caldwells suddenly owned all the land between Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley ski resorts, including the top of Squaw's famous KT-22 peak, which the resort now has to lease from them.
Now the Caldwells' plans for a new resort, White Wolf—which might, someday, include a Squaw-Alpine interconnect—have ground down. Though they've secured a private-resort permit and cut a deal to exchange their KT-22 land for Squaw's old Headwall chair (including installation), they've run smack into a lawsuit from Alpine homeowners.

The Caldwells seem baffled by the enmity ("We're just skiers," says Troy) but think that with a little more luck, they'll be able to start digging this fall. Feel free to envy them."

Maybe this topic is retarded, but there are more than a few places I can think of on the Chilean side of the Andes that land probably still costs less than $250/acre. There are some lattitudes south of Lenas have a lot of possibilities and are within 30 miles of the major highway.
