    Brighton "opening very soon"

According to their website and they're claiming some really impressive snow totals. their site go to snow report Now how long until Alta opens? Their site doesn't seem to be working so I don't know but hopefully it'll be soon.
edit: do those Brighton numbers seem inflated to anybody else?

I haven't been up there yet, but at one point late last week Snowbird was reporting more than twice as much snow as Alta. Right...

Anyone been up at Brighton to say if their totals sound accurate??

They're saying 48" of snow this storm so far, don't buy that. Oh well. Maybe with the little storms we had a month ago, but not recently.

Unfortunately, it's not simply snow totals or else LCC would frequently be the first to open in Utah. It has a lot to do with the milder, less rocky terrain in Big Cottonwood--there is less dangerous stuff to cover on the limited terrain that opens. BCC resorts can safely open limited terrain with a 20 inch base, whereas at the two LCC resorts it takes 40-50 inches.

Brighton and Solitude always open before LCC resorts. The only exception was Nov 10th, 2000, when the Bird went kookoo and decided to open lower Gad Valley and Wilbere with a 20-something inch base, a couple of days before the BCC resorts opened. I was skiing with a doc patroller that day and the number and nature of the injuries were scary (it's in the lost archives at P-mag). That kind of gruesome opening day didn't happen in all of the years I hosted at Solitude and Brighton.

Alta hasn't opened first in the state in over 50 years.

    Smile Brighton opener

After making a few contacts, I'd have to say that if there were a place to bet on such things, I'd put my money on the day after the day after tomorrow (Thurs).

I'll be there, anyone else? I need to get my damn knee back to normal before regular season in LCC so I can keep up.

Raymond Garfield Gordon, 23, who was scheduled to be a contestant on the "Canadian Idol" TV show, was arrested in August after an alleged public-masturbation spree, during which at least once he, nude, followed a woman and implored her, "Look at me. Please look at me." And police in Barcelona, Spain, arrested a man in August whom they thought was the serial mugger (19 victims) whose modus operandi included, most of the time, telling the victims that he knew what he was doing was bad and that they should spit on him (and, according to an officer, several did). I was up there today and it looks like about 8 new (as of 3 pm) I couldn't really tell how much total but it looks like they should easily be able to open . Now all we need is a few more feet for Alta. Then the season really starts. Anyone think our snow is a reward for having to watch Colorado get dumped on last November?

    Hello PowderHounds!!!

Winter has made its way to Alta! 13 inches today makes over 40 inches in the past 5 days. And skiers, it is absolutely dumping in Alta, right now! The National Weather Service is telling us to expect 12-24 inches in the next 24 hours and more snow near the end of next week.

Our scheduled opening date is Thursday, November 20th, conditions permitting. And, conditions look very good right now!

    Thumbs up

I'm planning on being at Brighton on opening day. Early season is just like going to the gym, but a lot more fun.
