Swedish guy need some local help about Fernie! :)

Hi everyone, I'm a Swedish guy who's going to spend the upcoming winter season in Fernie. It's going to be my first whole season of skiing and my first time in Canada. Im very expectant, but I have some questions i think you might have better knowledge in than me.

I have saved some money and I think i will have approximately 6000$ but I'm uncertain if that's going to be enought for everything (flights, bed, lift ticket, food etc)...

So I wonder how I get a job over there in the best way

I also wonder how much the food will cost (roughly) for a month, if I'm keeping it cheap and will cook everything by myself.

You could also leave a comment if you have any other tips for me as a european and a first seasoner

I know my english isn't the best but I hope you understand me. If there is any questions or if you need any more information, just tell me!

    Yours sincerely,
    Schnuff

I'd worry about where you are living before a job. Getting a job will be easier if you have a place to live. If you don't have a work visa though I certainly wouldn't count on a job as most won't hire you. $500 a month should keep you fed but that really depends on how you want to eat. You could probably do it cheaper but risk scurvy and such. I'm not sure about rent there but I would guess $500 a month at least as well unless you are willing and find someone/where to share a room then it could get cheaper. Don't know what your flight is costing but lucky for you their season is sort of short.
It's not so much the model year, it's the high mileage or meterage to keep the youth of Canada happy

Hello, I have already fixed a house with some other swedish guys. So that is already done, and I'm going to send away an application for work visa as soon as possible

I was in Revelstoke 3 months this winter and after that I went to Funäsdalen and stayed till may. Living/flights/gas/tickets etc. under 60k kr (dec-may). If you've saved 40k kr you should be ok without working, as long as you bought your pass early when it's cheap and you did'nt choose the most expensive house to rent. I think sundays = free food in the church in Fernie too, aka "feed the swedes".

no visa = no work. Just to many CND's without work, for anyone to risk it.

IF you get the visa then it becomes what will you do, can you do, have experience doing that will dictate how to get a job. A big part also is when will you be getting there?

Do you have any cooking experience? I would recommend looking for a job serving but that depends on your english communication skills. When will you be getting to Fernie? If you come early enough there should be lots of work available in town, arriving mid-season makes it a lot tougher. Working as a line cook should pay the bills (not much else) and guarantees at least one meal a day. Good luck! Pray for cold temperatures

It sounds very nice, why did you just stay 3 months? Did you run out of money? I think the house i will live in with some other swedish guys was pretty expensive... about 20k (kronor) for the whole season. I will look up about the church

Om du har några fler tips som utländsk i Kanada lr som säsongar etc, skriv gärna ett PM så tar vi det på svenska Peace

I just ended the school so I don't have much of job experience... Just some experiance as building worker, stockroom worker and gardener, along with my job at Burger King at the moment so I do have a little bit of experiance of customers and "cooking" (make burgers).

As i said I work on Burger King at the moment so if that counts I do have a little bit of cooking experiance, beside the cooking at home (just basic stuff thought)

I think i will get to Fernie in the middle of november. When do you think its early to get there?

Haha yeah, pray for the snow god Grizzly

After living in fernie for a season I realized something.
Fuck work, sell drugs. Take a few hundred bucks and invest them in some high quality swedish ludes.
Theres alot more money to be made from australians then the shysters at rcr.
Oh and dont forget about the fernie porn company (seriously), last i checked they never check visa's.

Surely you could arrange for a transfer to the fry station at the Fernie BK?

if you get a job at the ski hill you wont have to pay for a season pass which is about 1,000 dollars. the parking lot is a good gig as you dont have to do much. also touring is hiking in the backcountry or sidecountry not traveling around. but most swedes stick to the hill and flock together with their brightly colored matching plaid ski suits.

Sorry no Burger King in Fernie. He could work at the Cranbrook one and commute to ski.

$500 for food and youll be living like a king! i generally spend between 200-300 a month on food and i feel that i eat quite well.

No BK? How the fuck does Fernie expect to draw tourons without the draw of the Whopper? Hell, there has to be a at least three within 20 miles of Vail, all conveniently located just off 70. Attention Skiers who Love Flame Broiled Burgers (and who doesn't?): Summit County, CO is where you need to be.

Your right Fernie is the shittiest fuck hole in the world. You may as well just turn your rental cars around and b-line it to whistler before your touron daughters get in up over there head with amateur porn and australian techno. Stay away from fernie!
