That shot actually belongs to JLA415 as my camera was in freak mode. We were standing on the dam of lower Blue Lakes. We did not approach from that side. We parked on the frontside and did the tourist thing after skiing.

    PD, that still looks lovely.

Certainly one of the options for my b-day skiing on Thursday. I have never skied on August 25. I want to do more than the FD patches...
Bella and I would appreciate company for the trek.

I wish the Wu-Tang Patches would melt in...that's always a sweet 9 Chambers of Sun Cups type adventure.

And PD, where was that sweet shot taken? I'm pretty sure I've skied it, but it always looks different from somebody else's perspective.

Dookey67, I'm guessing it is the Method Man patch based on this photo you took of me 2 years ago:

There is much more so this year though.

that would be the top of the wu tang or old dirty bastard (it's still all one big non-patch out there). the line from round top down no longer connects. you can still ski to the round top lake from the top, but not the way we went.

Lot's of Snow in the round top area still, looked like a continuous line from the top of the wall to the flats below it still, amazing for late August

as of friday, you could ski from the base of moon couloir to winnemucca lake with just a little side stepping on rocks. it was melting out pretty quick though at the place where you have to do that.

Tahoe Mags. It looks like I'm getting together the same condo to ski lease at Alpine again this winter. We're looking for another weekday ski lease member, plus maybe one more weekend member, depending on situation.

This is a ski lease, not full time housing. It is right at Alpine Meadows (ski condo run home and you're in the parking lot) - you can walk to the hill. We'll have all the usual amenities (no hot tub). The members are all families/couples - not a party house. For a weekday member, you'll be sharing the weekdays with a winemaker and his wife. They don't get up much during the lead-up to the holidays, but they're there in Jan-Apr. They're nice and laid-back and always bring good wine with them.

We may be looking for one more family, couple or single person for full membership. That means you can go up any time, although if its a family, we need to find someone who doesn't plan to be there over Xmas.

PM me if interested and I can share more details.

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.

anyone got any info on folgers peak or highland lakes in general. i'm taking the girls hiking there tonight and wondering about bringing skis. my skis are pretty much a for sure, but should i bring theirs?? anything left relatively easy to get to?

or any fishing camping advice would be welcome too. i'm guessing there is no host to buy firewood from. can i get it at bloomfield or should i just bring it?

Dookey67 and I skied there on July 29th. We checked out Hiram Peak, Highland Lakes, and Folger Peak. we decided to ski Folger that day. Here is a link to our TR:
    TR - Folger Peak, July 29, 2011
While there won't be as much snow, there should still be enough snow to ski. The ridge to looker's left of Folger also looked pretty good that day. Hiram didn't seem to have as much snow as I would have expected after the big long winter we had. If the patches above Upper Highland Lake still have snow, they are pretty easy to get to, others can be more work. I wish I had a more recent report to share.

Not up for sharing the lease with you but glad to hear you're going to be around for some skiing. Be sure to hook up with me and Phil, eh?

On a weekday, the campground will be a good bet. Keeps you right at the lake. Otherwise, you have to camp down the road and it's not quite as nice.

The lakes are full of brookies. Pretty nice sized ones for Sierra brooks. Really fun to fish them with dries in the evenings when the wind dies down. You can also do well just drowning bait.

For wood, I'd just collect it. Tons along the road coming in.

    MiniTR: Dunderberg 8/21/11

A crew including G2A, Vets, JLA415 and 3 non-mags hit up Dunderberg yesterday. There is a shit-ton of snow still there. The Saddle patch was right about 1000 feet of vert according to the gps. The smaller patch to the right provided the best snow. Multiple runs done and big smiles all around. Vets has pics posted at patchskiing.com.
There is no doubt gonna be snow left in these patches when new snow starts falling.

    Definitely a fun day.
I'm still waiting for more photos to be sent.
While we're waiting, here is one that G2A took of me:

What next? Huck, skim, or ski-by?

I finally opened their 2009 Gewurz this weekend and found it to be an excellent quaff -- tasty, not overbearing.

Also, I shared a lease with Sinecure for two years and can vouch for his general roommate quality.

Here is almost an entire view of Jack's Glacier:

If you look closely, you can see me bootpacking near the top. However, you're probably looking further up above to looker's left. From a distance it looked like it ALMOST went all the way through.

Sweet PD, Headed there this weekend for a campout with the kids. How bad were the suncups? I think i'm gonna take my gear. Will be the first day back on snow since the knee injury. Hoping it's not too bumpy.
