Fuck that. We can rent a motorized fishing boat from John at Caples. I can just see a pole going thru something inflatable and you guys making the 11 o'clock news. Not in a good way.

Joint Alpine/Kirkwood/Homewood student pass just went on sale. $199 weekdays, $329 anyday. Anyday passes are blacked out at Alpine & Homewood, but not Kirkwood, 12/26-31, and MLK and Presidents' Weekends (but only Sat/Sun).

Does not take to long to kayak across Caples, done it a few times to fish. Seems that I recall a fishermans trail that goes around the east side of the lake, although I have not taken it, folks have showed up on a primitive trail to were I was fishing. I think starting from 88 close to were the new boat ramp area is.

it starts at the woods creek access. it used to go much further from what i remember. however, back then there was a bridge going over woods creek which allowed for much more access. we couldn't find a trail and spent a lot of time walking on downed trees, since that was easiest. it's not so much so with skis and boots on your pack.

Yup been complaints on that on Unofficial for quite some time. I thought this announcement might fix that issue. It does if you want to drive to Kirkwood over the holidays...and Emerald Bay is often closed during that period.

I wonder whether there's a discounted ticket available during the blackout periods.

I hope to be making a face like that when I finish up my PT.

Tore my Achilles playing basketball in May. Actually not bad timing when you look at it; I was on crutches this summer, but should be back in a good way come the fun season.

bumpy, almost dead, dirty-hippy patches around Mt. Rose

Patch action from the past couple evenings...these were an equal mix of snow, dirt, and algae.

went to pick up mail today and there was the first issue of Powder. i don't know wether to rejoice or bitch about it. i go through this every Aug when that first issue hits. happy to see the first issue (already read cover to cover) and the ski reviews, on the other hand its a tease (unless you are heading to SA or NZ)!

Hiking around Castle and Basin peaks today--saw some nice looking tracks on some chutes on the north side of the east ridge of castle--about 30-35 tight turns, even some "powder" eights. There look to be some even longer lines there and off the ridge between castle and basin, but not for me--I'm too old and too lazy. Nice firm snow with an inch or two of soft on top, no suncups to speak of.

What would the best approach be to nail that snow, og? Sounds mighty nice. I just got stem cell/prp injections in both knees and my shoulder today and should be good to go by the end of the week.

Not to mention all the Patches, and DSR, and Squaw, and KW...
Not the absolutely best time to snap the tendon, but better than if I had ruptured it in December or February and been stuck looking at this http://i.imgur.com/tEsti.jpg (NMS) during the sweet March powder.

I did get antsy checking out the AM july 4th pics.

Gimpy fist-bump. Walking for the first time after being on crutches for 1.5 months is weirder than I had expected.
