Just think how much better it would have been had you tuned your skis at all this season.

are they fattening them up a bit next season at all? A 105 Bantam would be cool, but it would be so much better with 80-90mm underfoot.

I'm trying to gauge on the best length for learning, but I'm thinking he needs something a bit longer and fatter. (I posted this instead of a PM in case anyone else is interested in an answer)
666 - I think we're both going in the same direction here - longer fatter skis for the rockers

you might consider a season rental if you are going to experiment with ski sizes - you might be able to spend less money over time - do you live in the Bay Area? Any Mountain has a good program

I've bought Owen several sizes of skis so that we can try to move up when we think he's ready - if they don't work, we can always bump down again and save the longer ones for later - we've used Rossi Comp Jr skis and bindings for 3 years with him - he started with the 63cm's at 18 months, moved up to 80cm's at 3 years, then to 93 cm's at 4.5 years - bindings are specific to the ski, and I have used the same pair on all 3 sizes - DIN 1-4 - Owen is at 2 - we used some 2 buckle, adjustable Roces kids boots for 2 years, but Owen was skiing right out of them (too soft) and we just bought him some new 3 buckle Rossi Comp Jr boots last month when we bumped him up to the 93's - he has always done just fine moving up a size - it's taken him a couple of weeks to get his feet under him with his newest set-up, because the boots are taller and stiffer, and the skis were 13cm longer, and we've had FEET of new snow in the last few weeks, but he seems to have figured them out

I also was wondering who the crazy people were who dropped the cliff between Hatchett and Engerbretsons on Sat. Not sure which one its called? I was sitting on the patio stoked after some good fingers lines..., and then those guys drop that cliff.

i was referring to a guy who skied engerbretson's the normal way... i acutally met him last weekend and did a few laps with him. my post was an attempt to see if i already knew skier666 and didn't realize it...

besides that there was also some more serious action on saturday that was fairly interesting.... i saw a guy do a kinda sketchy line (given the conditions) that started on engerbretson's and exited through hatchett. there were also tracks later in the day that indicated that other people skied some similar variations starting on engerbretson's and bending left as they came through hatchett.

i really wish i got some pictures of the guys sking the fingers at 4:05.... the visuals were incredible with them kicking up corn wile the sun was going down in the background.
    Still waiting...

    scenic Tahoe stoke

Pretty awesome views on the drive up late Friday night ... wish I weren't so spent from touring that I had the energy to stay up late and get some photos from Kiva Beach on Saturday night.

for those that didn't catch it, in this pic, the streak of white in the sky is not a jet contrail. it's a star. amazing.

how far off the road do you have to get so that cars going by don't ruin everything. seems like you were on the bike bridge.

thinking the tahoe thread was going to hit page 2, i did a quick edit of the first couloir we hit off stevens arm. schralph beat me to the punch though

On the other side of the bike path right where the ice and snow started - not too close to the bridge because it was swampy there, maybe about 50 yards uphill from the bridge. But I was pointed away from the road and the moon was so bright that the cars weren't doing anything. Their headlights don't have a lot of lateral throw. The Lover's Leap photos were much harder because I was practically on the road. Kind of hard finding a 1-minute gap in 50 traffic on a Friday night, even after midnight.

Chad it's too bad we missed each other. I can't wait to see a collage of photos from that dock under all different kinds of lighting, stormclouds, whitecaps, fiery sunsets etc.

Jahroy - although I was tempted to straightline the box on my last lap, I stuck to skiers left of the box. With another kid due in the next month I stayed away from Engerbretson's

A few weeks ago I was standing atop a rock drop in Spurkwood, with a curved spine-like mankity mank in run. Powdork was down below, saying just fucking drop it the landing is money. I whined, but I'm gonna be a daddy in a few weeks. He harassed, so I dropped. I guess I succumb easily to peer pressure. Right as I came off the lip, and realized I was not going to fuck up and land in a hole to my left with a branch sticking up from it, and it was a sweet line up to powder landing that I could have launched off of, I thought - you should hit it with more speed, you puss! But then again, it was no Engerbretson's

Should we start a Longboard Roll Call Thread or just do it here? LBD is this Saturday at Alpine Meadows. If we need a meeting spot, I'd say let's meet in the seating area above Treats Cafe in the breezeway aroun 8:45. Otherwise look for change in the summit line.

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.

Not everyone will be there at 845 at Treats (though I will try to be to score a good parking spot) ...

I say Summit Line at 10 to get the big group together for photos. I'll try to hang as well as I can but I'll probably have to switch to the lady longboards or even the 178's to actually keep up at some point.

    Schralph,

I'll probably bring both skis and the big snowboard. If we stuff the toes of my hard boots with newspaper and you wear thick socks, you could probably ride that if I'm not on it.

Because a bunch of folks in fart bags, diapers, hair band t-shirts and Mormon outfits on old long straight skis will be hard to spot. Just start off on Summit and take a few groomers to start as the snow softens. You catch the laggers in the line up.

Then do it right. Keyhole, Idiots, Buttresses, Seldom, etc. must all get hit for it to be legit. Schralph's vagina already hurts. So should the rest of his body.

that's good, because if you just bring one ski, it has to be 420
