Squaw was just flat-out fun today. So smooth. Some wind-buff, some soft and fresh, some corn, some sastrugi (OK, that part wasn't fun) and finally the sun. Stupid work meant I left at lunch. Lotsa pro-cameras (fixed and film) out so will be interesting to see what went down.

And big woot for just announced May 30 close!

Oh yeah, Alpine announced Season Pass prices today for next season. All passes are good at Alpine and Homewood (and Red Lodge if it matters). Also, a new perq for passholders. Any season passholder can buy two 3-hour private lessons for the price of one. Plus discounts on food and gear.

    Unfiltered pass - no blackouts - $699
Slightly filtered - No Xmas, MLK or Presidents - $499
Filtered - filtered blackouts plus no Saturdays in Jan/Feb - $359
    College Pass - no blackouts - $329
    Family Pass - 2 adults, 2 kids, unfiltered - $1499

Put down $100 now and you can wait until October to pay off the rest. No word on whether if you buy a pass now if it is good through the remainder of this season (I'm guessing no, but you might ask).

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.

Stoked Squaw is going for Memorial weekend again. "Beginning May 8 we will operate Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through the Monday of Memorial Day."

I'm down for either. I think Alpine's management is pretty laid back, would be really surprised if anyone was given a hard time.

Squaw was fun today. Everything opened (all hikes) except Silverado. Palisades show was entertaining, except for the snowboarder who almost killed himself. Need to see if any pics came out on the camera.

Alkasquawlik apparently knocked out 41 KT laps on skinny skis for a good cause: http://www.codytownsend.com/2011/03/...-ski-thon.html, he was mach'ing down KT every run, it was insane to watch. He wasn't even cutting in line, otherwise obscure reference's record may have been in jeopardy.

Regarding the AM pass prices, I believe existing passholders get them even cheaper $649-$459-$339 (last years prices). Can't wait to see those Munchkins pics.

Looks like headwall with a bit of windfuck on it.

Squaw was indeed fun today. Skied until my knee gave out at 2. Snow up top was nice. Waiting for the palisades film report at 11. Rode the chair with a chica from CB who said she'd hit chimney.

on the way to killebrew? that was a good day.
it's the mountain hardwear wayback. i love it's functionality, room, the back panel entry. however, it probably won't last more than one season (at least without some warranty work).

i think i have heard that called headwall. in between the radio tower and cali chute.

Ok, so for the lurkers from across the globe peeking at this thread....

Here's some South Lake and Kirkwood uber-snow shots from March 25-27th, 2011 with current total snowfall at 692-713":

Went to lake level (6250 ft) to grab some fatter skis...

Proof its at lake level...boat docks.

Parking near Bub's on Friday night...

Waiting for the film crew to arrive for The Shinning II...

    Proof that California has icicles...

Driving up the Spur for fun on Saturday night at dusk...

    Snowpack'r'us....

The Spur on Sunday around 2:15pm.

If only I had a car in front of me for perspective...

Are you sure there's a turn there?

Hey dyno or UCL, if you get over there quick you can pioneer some first ascent routes!

I saw that too driving out on Sunday night ... yowsa. Too bad I'm working all week ... guess with this weather the fat lake level lines will start getting burned and melted out below 7000 feet before I can get back in the BC.

For snowpack comparison, here is a rock under Gate B as of mid-season last year (didn't see it much deeper):

Here it is as of a few hours ago:

    And Gate B itself:

Some wonky snow the last few days, from windbutter to liquid death-cookies and cream, but the weather today made up for all of it.

About that M-0 line - How is it possible to ski with a pair of bowling balls swinging between your legs?

The above situation really was fate dealing Aces for FatBastard. We met randomly on top of Palisades and we skied the rest of the day (stayed on palisades until they kicked us off......I managed 5 fun laps).

Here is FB getting after it.

You're on Mineral Springs too? Or did you just bypass the main road for traffic/avy control?

I don't think that those roof mushrooms can be topped. They are freaking huge. The Dockside photo is really aesthetic.

Dumb question (only skied once at mammoth and now live in Austria) but does it get cold enough for long enough for the lake to freeze over to some degree?
